RIGGS AND MURTAUGH ARE BACK, ARE BAD, ARE… REBOOTED?

It's 2011. Why not remake Lethal Weapon, The Wild Bunch, and Westworld? Start now, get 'em done by 2012.

First...damnit.

Second...is anyone really surprised.

I mean I'm not opposed to seeing a Lethal Weapon movie with new carachters but a reboot...c'mon now. This makes me want to see a 5th Die Hard with Bruce just to keep the re-makes at bay because you know that's on a list somewhere.

Hopefully they all fall through like that Dirty Dozen remake from a few years back.

LETHAL WEAPON was of a certain time and place. There is really nothing to reboot. While I can easily see this film getting made, I can't see it doing well.

I actually want a WESTWORLD remake though. Bring it.

Now I actually WANT the world to end in 2012.

I hear they're fast-tracking the Lethal Weapon remake to meet a schedule where both Hayden Christensen and Ice Cube are available.

All good will for Leathal Weapon that I had evaporated with 4. So i really don't mind someone else giving it as shot, as long as Shane Black still writes it.

I...Love all, 4, Lethal Weapon films.  I hope that the re-boot is well cast.  Maybe this will be The WB's James Bond.  Mel Gibson will always be...Martin Riggs to me.  They can re-make it, and get another great action star...Jason Statham as Riggs, but the guy they pick will always be the...2nd best Lethal Weapon that is Sergeant Riggs.

I demand that the picture with this article be replaced with a shot of Mac and Dennis from LETHAL WEAPON 5...

I blame CHUD. I bet the powers-that-be saw those articles a month or so back about films that absolutely should not be remade, scrolled down to the If Michael Bay remade it bit and thought 'That sounds excellent, lets do it'. Of course, no one was arguing against a Lethal Weapon remake but this is just the beginning...

Next up: Space Outlaw Josey Wales - a battle scarred veteran of the Lunar wars, Space Josey Wales must relearn what it is to live a peaceful life while avoiding bounty hunters and being hunted by his former squad leader, Space Dominatrix Trixie Agogo. Along the way he picks up a laid back old moon creature, an angry moon girl and a bunch of whiny settler folk with nowhere to go. In IMAX, 3D and zero G.

The only special thing about the Lethal Weapon series were Danny Glover, Mel Gibson, and the fact that Donner understood that their chemistry was all that made those movies special. This will probably be a one-off, a la Miami Vice.

I never thought of the Dirty Harry connection before, though. But while Harry wasn't suicidal, exactly, he was reckless and for a cop that's practically the same thing. It certainly still meant he was dangerous for his partner. And Shane Black's definitely a big fan of Dirty Harry, so I can see it.

As for The Wild Bunch, I can see it being remade and being ok. It certainly wouldn't be as good, but I doubt it'd even be similar to Peckinpah's film. But Warner Brothers have had a pretty good track record with getting good directors to do their genre stuff, and with a Western the budget would be low enough that they wouldn't need to water it down for the general public. I definitely think True Grit's success will spark a lot more Westerns being greenlit.

It's getting to be more and more that the movies being remade are movies we've seen remade hundreds of times already. In addition to three more sequels, how many times did Lethal Weapon get remade in the eighties and nineties? The "Lethal Weapon" formula became the "Generic Cop Buddy Movie" formula. Of course, the studio's obnoxious gamble is that the people who skipped out on all the Lethal Weapon copycats, some of which were quite good, will suddenly cave in and see "Nu-Lethal Weapon" if only because of the title. I hate these people, and Hollywood keeps catering to them.
