CALCULON
Well, that finishes this paperwork.
Calculon Enterprises.
MONIQUE
Calculon, a fight scene has broken
out at the special effects warehouse.
Come quickly before a fiery explosion
chases someone down a hallway.
[Two laser blasts hit a building behind her. Calculon hangs up.]
CALCULON
I have no choice but to--
[The scene freezes.]
ANNOUNCER
If you want Calculon to race to the
laser gun battle in his hover-Ferarri,
press 1. If you want Calculon to double-check
his paperwork, press 2. Enter now.
["1. Violent Lasergun Battle" and "2. Tedious Paperwork" appear
on screen. Confused, Fry presses "1" on his chair.]
CHAIR
You have pressed 2.
FRY
No I didn't!
CHAIR
I'm almost positive you did.
[Time Lapse. Night has fallen outside. Calculon is checking his
paperwork.]
CALCULON
Add in the carryover from form 16A,
then deduct line 2B...
EDIT: Wow, I didn't expect that to paste almost EXACTLY as I copied it.

I used to love the books(had like 10+ of them) but I have no idea how the hell it would be interesting as a movie. I guess it could have bookends and constant cuts to some kid reading it and cussing every time he fucked up.

I can see how it might work on TV, if after every episode there was a viewer poll online, determining what the hero should do next, but that sort of thing would quickly get manipulated by the internet saavy folks of 4chan and the like, to make sure the hero dies, early on, every time.
As for on film, I guess they could try the Mr. Payback thing again? But that was a huge failure, doesn't seem worth it.
Unless they're just going to do a straight, no gimmick, adaptation of Space Vampire.
Which would be excellent.

Spot on with the point about YouTube being the perfect place for this. I have a small role in a bi-weekly CYOA series on YouTube called "Spade". Works pretty well.
Didn't the House on Haunted Hill Sequel attempt to do this? I seem to recall they had a special branching option that was a weak attempt at choosing the direction of the film.
Definitely curious as to how this will work in the theater.
