And I thought she was legally retarded to begin with.

In a speech delivered to the Iowans for Tax Relief this weekend, tea party queen Michele Bachmann described early America as a "remarkable" place where everyone was equal.

"How unique in all of the world, that one nation that was the resting point from people groups all across the world. It didn't matter the color of their skin, it didn't matter their language, it didn't matter their economic status. It didn't matter whether they descended from nobility or whether they have [weird blip in the video] a higher class or a lower class. It made no difference! Once you got here, we were all the same! Isn't that remarkable? It is absolutely remarkable!"

Wow. Just... wow.

Keep this chick away from bunny rabbits.

Wow, literally every single sentence of that passage is fundamentally false.  What a freak.

I wonder what people group I'm in...

That's actually sort of sweet, in a nightmarishly ignorant kind of way.

By which I mean, I generally expect righties like Bachmann to sneer at diversity and equality.

Is this some fantasy alternate early America that I haven't visited while tripping on acid?

What a dipshit.

This is why there shouldn't be budget cuts to education.

You have to admire democracy. What an awesome system. People of her abysmal intellect are able to hold positions of power and we still haven't become extinct as a species.

You really have too question who is advising Buchmann too come out with such rubbish? does this really play with the GOP base she's currently whooing? She should sack her advisers and bring in some people with a clue...

What I like best is that she seems wholly ignorant of the fact that she couldn't have her present job back in those good old days.

You guys don't get it. By pretending that America was always great, she's backing up the idea that people who complain about being marginalized in our society are just complainers, since America has always been equally nice to everyone, dontcha know?

She's playing right into the base with these comments

Kate's right.  These comments are ridiculous on their face, but we're not the target audience.  Her remarks are intended for people with less than a firm grip on reality.

Holy shit.  I'm glad Matthews is calling these idiots out.  I don't think matching anger for anger is the right way to go, but sometimes it feels good seeing people get called out as the idiots they are.
