LUCKY MCKEE’S NEW FILM SHOULD BE CONFISCATED AND BURNED

"Woman" gets quite the response at Sundance.

Oh joy! This got me excited! I didn't know McKee was doing more Ketchum.

Who would have figured? A horror movie causing extreme reactions on its own merits instead of sub William Castle shenanigans?

And more on topic: Get the fuck out pussy!

It's a amazing to me that the guy can keep ranting like that - the camera guy missed the beginning and end, but still ended up with seven uninterrupted minutes - long after he realizes that he's completely alone and getting nowhere.

Holy crap the male lead in this is the Gem's own Johnny Burns! I can't wait to see this.

Ah but the thing is, he also realized that a) he was talking to a staff member whose job it is to be polite to him, and b) he had a camera on him. That's two audiences that can't talk back to him. Alex nailed it: this rant is about him and him only, and he was in a situation where he had the power to indulge it to his satisfaction.

Ugh. That video left a sour taste in my mouth, probably because I spent all day at work today talking to shitheads just like him. All opinion and self-righteousness, so obsessed with 'getting their voice heard' they couldn't care less about what anyone else has to say. Still, great publicity for Woman, and they could get the perfect one-sheet out of this: Just a screen cap of his face with the tagline, 'WANT TO PISS THIS GUY OFF? SEE THIS MOVIE.'

i was going to say the same thing,

that guy did more to promote that film, then any typed review could ever have done. I am generally a non-horror type, but now I even want to see this.

Bububu ... there's rape and torture and murder and degradation!

/monocle pops out

It's a fucking horror movie based on a fucking Jack Ketchum book you stupid fucking nitwit!

It fucking pisses me off how many ill informed, ignorant people have all these opportunities to watch all sorts of cool/new/interesting movies and I have to obsessively hunt around, wait months or years or order from overseas and pay through the nose to keep up with the movies I like.

I would not be surprised if that was totally staged.

Neither would I.  The guy mentions the camera right at the beginning, but it isn't removed by the staff until they're almost out of the building.  Of course, I know zilch about how these things work at Sundance, so my opinion is no better than anyone else's.  Besides, it's just as believable that it's for real as it is that it's not.  I guess it really depends on how much of a conspiracy theorist you are.

Lucky McKee doesn't strike me as a "stage outrage" kind of guy. People buy advanced tickets to Sundance movies all the time with little idea what they're about, it's not a leap to think that he saw a title like "The Woman" and thought it'd be some staid period drama. And the Sundance people wouldn't really remove someone just for making a video with their phone.

So basically this offended a half dozen people and almost made that guy's fucking head explode, Scanners style.

So far so good. I'm at least happy to see another McKee movie. And I doubt that any of that reaction was staged.

(Thanks to Melvin for the tip, who also pointed out that the angry man in question looks a lot like Michael Moriaty of Troll fame. Hmm…)

I'm most intrigued by this. Is the star of Q, The Winged Serpent, Island of the Alive and writer of something called Hitler Meets Christ this offended by a horror film? I'm going to say no, it's not him, but on the other hand, the guy does claim to have been in about 40 films himself. And he does sound and look like Moriarty. However according to imdb Michael Moriarty is 6' 4 and this guy is surrounded by people taller than him. He also looks just a tad too young. However, if he has appeared in at least 40 films, this guy should have an imdb page. Who is this mysterious troublemaker?

That's 100% not Moriarty.

I just want to know if anyone has footage of the guy's disruption during the Q&A session. I'm sure he's not saying anything all that different from what he expresses here, but I'm guessing it's still pretty interesting.

I couldn't agree more.

I don't think there's any video of the theater outrage but apparently the guy was right behind Drew McWeeny. I guess Drew got in the guys face. He wrote about it- http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/motion-captured/posts/sundance-review-lucky-mckees-the-woman-outrages-and-offends-with-surgical-skill-at-midnight. I'm just glad Lucky has a new movie.

I generally shy away from horror films but I'm pretty sure a friend and I are going to do a double feature of this and Antichrist so our heads can explode.

I gotta say I reckon it's staged personally. Still, if so, it's done its job.

Even if it's real, the angry guy could still be right. The movie could be a gigantic piece of shit. We don't know because we didn't see it. Does anyone else think that "selling" a movie on someones outrage is a little disingenuous? The amount of people who want to see it just because a couple people got all shook up seems weird.

I agree it's not Moriaty, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was. That dude is wacky and outspoken. Half his interview on Masters of Horror: Pick Me Up is an anti-abortion diatribe.

I'd rather see it because McWeeny said it was a big all piece of feminist horror and is about control. The fact that this guy freaked out and says it hates women and McWeeny can say the opposite makes it super intriguing to me.

I agree, and he's not alone in his reading..  I just hate the fact that every review of the movie has to include this video.  But it happened, so whatever.  You should see Antichrist too, it's good!

I would have missed out on Mel Gibson's Jesus Chainsaw Massacre if it weren't for the outrage.  I ended up glad that I had seen it, but that's perhaps for another thread.

Yeah, hilariously batshit. Apart from not looking or sounding the same, the dude on that video clip is way too boring to be him.
