ORCI & KURTZMAN PLAY ENDER’S GAME

On one hand: Christ.

On the other: This and Rendezvous With Rama are the two films I want most to see made during my lifetime, so I can't get too upset that things are moving forward in some fashion.

I didn't read Ender's Game until I was well into my 20s, but still liked it a lot. Then I read an interview with Card and decided I must have entirely misread the whole book. I could've SWORN it was an anti-war book.

On topic: I do think the right team could successfully adapt the book into a good movie, but not this team.

Good god it had to come to this I guess. Last I heard Wolfgang Petersen was doing this not now. This choice as Kenny said feels all wrong. I've read the book three times its one of the easiest reads. I agree its just not film friendly but I think it can be done with the right people. I'd love to see someone like Nolan or Aronofsky handle it honestly. I too would like to see it done in my lifetime.

The thing that could really work on the big screen is the training stuff, especially the point where Ender figures out how to deal with zero gravity faster than anyone else. There's a lot that won't work. Personally I think you have to give away the twist to the audience before you give it away to Ender because it wouldn't work theatrically. It would also be a bitch to find such a young and capable cast. Remember all those years Jake Lloyd was attached?

Would they really be keeping the kids so young though?  I could easily see that as one of the changes made.  I'd have qualms about presenting a movie about preteens getting into wargames where one of them actually kills another.

The age of the kids is essential to the story working at all, and probably the main reason a film version would fail.
