NEW SPIDER-MAN QUICKLY BECOMING MOST SPY-SNAPPED SUPERHERO EVER

Tons of wanna-be Bugle photogs hanging around the Spidey set.

I'm starting to think those silver shoes are actually part of the final design. He's been wearing them in every shot we've seen and the camera is filming him from all angles, head-to-toe and pretty damn close. If this was something they were removing in post, it makes absolutely no sense to color them silver and give them such an intentional "design". They'd color them red and try to blend them into the suit as much as possible, with digital being used only to remove any obvious traces in certain close-ups.

New suit looks better every time I see it. THIS is what the suit of a "spider man" would look like. The more I see of this design, the harder on the eyes the old Rami one becomes

Still not on board with the basic idea of the film though

Thats gotta chaffe like a sunovabitch, but looks nice...gotta see it in motion to pass full judgement

Now I'm going to turn into "that guy": hate the blue fingertips. Just hate it. Looks like he's painted his fingernails.

And the blue in these and other "spy" photos has looked almost purple; hopefully the post production process will make it look more like that official still released a while back.

Could the silver soles be part of how he climbs walls, or does Parker have the same hair growths on his feet as on his hands (or was that just an invention of the Raimi films?)?

That first shot actually looks decent. I still need a trailer, though.

All the McFarlane-style swirls and wraparound red bits just look too fucking busy. I recognise the need to separate this from Raimi's Spidey, but it looks like the BATMAN FOREVER version of the costume costume.

It looks better in those shots but I still hate the design. It is change for changes sake.

This this this.  Thank you for the McFarlane reference, I'm going to remember that, since it's exactly how I feel about it.

I get a feeling that many of the people complaining about "wrap-around swirls" etc have only a limited familiarity with actual spiders

I get a feeling that you have only a limited familiarity with Spider-Man. You know, the 50 year old character this movie is based on?

The blue fingers and silver soles are weird. And it looks too vinyl-y (?) for me. Not bad from a distance though, especially this shot... where the mask looks more Ditko-esque than Raimi's.

Haha, what's with the Adidas stripes?! Those silver soles are sooooo TV '78 Spidey.

Honestly, this is the thing with virtually every superhero adaptation. The filmmakers work the hell out of the costume design to create a visual dynamic that (in some cases) probably  wouldn't be there without such detail. That kind of dovetails into why I think Iron Man is more interesting on film than on the page, because the tactile, functional aspects of the character are more fun and impressive with the added dimensionality of film. Your average comic book artist is not going to waste panels and pages getting into the suit like that, it's too much fucking work and it would slow the story down. On the flipside is Batman, who looks better in comic book form. The flowing cape that indicate movement as well as emotion, even his body type changes depending on what kind of story you're trying to sell.

Yeah, this design is busy in a sort of distracting way, and not terribly attractive, but the raised webbing on the Raimi costume was just as much of a flourish, a "change for changes sake", so in that sense it isn't much different. I'm not much of a fan of the movies or the character, nor am I terribly curious about this one, but it looks like Spider-Man, it's unmistakably that character.

That said, I sort have to love PK's insistence on talking up shit that she doesn't really understand. It wasn't like Steve Ditko tried to make a "spider-like" costume and totally fucked it up. What we have here is not a "correction" in the design.

Fuck it. It's a shitty design.

Bring on the pre-production art of The Lizard wearing an Under Armor jogging outfit.

Kate:  For the 100000th time.  ITS NOT BASED ON AN ACTUAL SPIDER ITS BASED ON A 50 YEAR OLD COMIC BOOK CHARATER.

I don't like saying this. I really don't like saying this. I don't want to be 'that guy'. But I don't like the suit. It looks like a colorful gimp suit. Hopefully it will look better on film.
