The New Yorker does Guillermo Del Toro

I wouldn't categorize this as news, so I apologize if I should have submitted first.  The New Yorker did a fantastic write up on Del Toro.  After reading it, he's not the only one who is going to be depressed if At The Mountains of Madness doesn't get the green light.

Thanks for passing this on Judd, reading now. I don't love all his films, but I appreciate the hell out of every single one.

Quote:
For del Toro, one of the key moments of horror cinema is in “Alien,” when Harry Dean Stanton “cannot run because he is in awe of the creature when it’s lowering itself in front of him. It’s a moment of man in front of a totemic god.”

Awesome.

Thanks so much for sharing this.  A wonderful view into del Toro's dreams, hopes, struggles, and visions.  Amazing.

Did a search before posting it, and as expected, someone else brought the thunder.  It's a great article, and it makes me very excited and anxious for At The Mountains of Madness.

Come on Cameron...flex that muscle.  If you want another 3D event for your beloved format, you can hope for Wrath of the Titans, or you can get GdT his money.

More than getting excited about At The Mountains Of Madness*, this piece made me want to see what his Smaug looked like.

*Actually, as a Lovecraft nerd this made me a bit nervous.

I think they're keeping his Smaug design. A lot of his concept work and script work is being carried over, so here's hoping we see a dragon we've never seen before.

And yeah, At The Mountains of Madness being described as "the first David Lean-sized horror film" gets my gears going.

What a lovely interview.  Anyone who hasn't watched Del Toro's director commentaries on DVD and Blu-Ray has pleasures in store.
