"Bets that singer and detective are white? Can’t have too many Asians running up in our films over here, after all."

You certainly can't!  I'll take that bet!

Oh shit.

I still wonder what that Walter Hill/Richard Gere/Denzel Washington version would have been like.

The "tender emotion" bit in Woo's quote made me laugh. Never change, John.

I don't think John Lee (awesome meta Chow Yun Fat connection) made any romantic comedies in Korea.  THE CUT RUNS DEEP is more Mean Streets-like, and A MOMENT TO REMEMBER (also starring Jung Woo Sung) is one of the few melodramatic weepies that I actually like.  He recently made the Red Dawn-tinged Korean War film INTO THE FIRE which got mixed (at best) notices, but I guess it served well enough as a calling card saying "Hey, I can also blow shit up".

Not crazy about the 3D idea, but I'll go see this.  Hopefully they find a villain worthy of wearing Shing Fui On's cowboy hat.

The only things growing stale are films that treat their use of 3D as a gimmick, tossing objects and effects out at the audience.. and writers who fail to see that the future is more immersion, not less

3D. In the future all films will be shot in it. Time for people to make peace with this idea. Those who claim otherwise are sounding increasingly like silent film buffs complaining about sound in the wake of the JAZZ SINGER

Anyway... I can't help but be bothered by the fact the Killer is getting remade, rather than seeing a major rerelease like it deserves, but the basic story is sound and if Woo is willing to put his stamp of approval on the production, perhaps at least there will be some worthwhile action. The original film still exists so it's difficult for me to get too worked up about this past a certain point

With that said, what bothers me more than anything is that they have not simply hired back CYF. He is still alive, is now fluent in english, and therefore I can think of no one else more suited for the title role. If age is a problem, we now live in a post CLU  world. The idea that an actor could be "too old" for a role is no longer a legitimate excuse not to cast them

Everyone with a region-free DVD player should check out the fantastic Andrew Lau film "Daisy" (make sure it's the 124 minute director's cut and not the mutilated 110 minute version) to see Jung Woo-sung play a similar hitman with a conscience role.
