FLETCH LIVES. AGAIN.

Rights in hand, Warner Bros wants to revive Fletch. Will it work this time?

While Fletch is one of my favourite films - and perhaps favourite comedy - of all time, I'm not upset by this.  The remake will in no way be comparable to the original thanks to the 25+ year time difference.  Should it become a franchise, I can only hope that Carioca Fletch is an iota better than Fletch Lives.

He's already had the baton passed his way playing a very dry, smart yet sarcastic Chevy Chase-meets-Bill Murray character on tv - why not give the gig to Joel McHale?

I was just coming in here to post this and Rain Dog beat me to the punch. Joel would be perfect.

The MacDonald books are good enough, but Chase took it to the next level. While most don't care for Fletch Lives, at least it's consistent.

Hopefully, if WB wants to set the tone for the franchise...they start fresh with Fletch Won and then define their style from there.

While it's very funny and surprisingly faithful, the movie Fletch is pretty terrible in keeping the spirit of the book. It omits a death that drives Fletch to do what he does and it's a lot more bitter towards the journalism industry. I hate the happy ending of the movie where he gets the girl. The "Fuck you, I win." ending of the book is so much better. The books are also really dialogue heavy and funny, so the movie got that right.

My ideal Fletch actors

A while back, Ryan Reynolds' name was bandied about for this.  That would be near perfect.  If The Green Lantern tanks, he can always fall back on this franchise.

Oh yeah, Franco would be great in this. I bet he'd jump on it too, if it was offered.

I welcome the idea of more Fletch films, and here's hoping they won't jerk around with the property for another decade.

Adam Scott or McHale, please.

I don't think McHale is big-screen leading material - he's more a character than an actor. Franco, on the other hand, would knock it out of the park.

I demand to play Fletch. However, in the unlikely event of Hollywood disagreeing with fate, destiny and the universe in general, I give my permission for James Franco to stand in for me.

McHale, Franco, or Corday all sound good to me. Although I really want McHale and Donal Glover to do a buddy action movie.

Of course I would also like to see a literate, fun director behind these such as Shane Black or Rian Johnson.

Hey, wouldn't you know it, I was watching Fletch last night and on top still finding it very, very funny, I was thinking how great Paul Rudd would be if they revived the character in a new film.

"Take your pants off."

"I don't even know your name."

"Bend over."

"Hi, Ben, Victor Hugo. What are you in for?"

"Molesting a dead horse."

"That's you God given right as an American, I'm trying to cut down myself."

Yeah, James Franco for Fletch. He'd be so hilarious. Although I also wouldn't mind Joel McHale, and for a bold choice, I'd go with Danny McBride.
