Not that anyone in their right mind can yell at Samuel L. Jackson, but still, I wouldn't be surprised if all this was supposed to be kept in the dark.

Not sure how much you can keep something in the dark that everyone pretty much knew was going to happen anyway.

Not necessarily. Jackson said months ago he was told by his agent he wasn't going to be in Thor, which I guess was true at that point. If he'd never uttered another word, that would've been the end of it. As for Captain America, everyone ASSUMED he was going to be in the modern day opening and closing scenes, but it was never confirmed. Again, if nobody opened their mouths, technically it would've remained just that: people assuming, with no actual evidence. Unlike Iron Man 2, also, I don't think we'll see him in any of the promo spots. It's not for nothing he's only shooting for one day.
