The Super Soldier serum provides one hell of a buff job.

If the first line in that spot is any indication, people won't have to worry about dickhead Ultimate Cap making an appearance.

And I think this is my favorite shot:

STYLISH BOWLER CAP ALERT

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

This pretty much seems to confirm the rumors about Red Skull using prosthetics:

Skinny Chris Evans is creeping me out.

They have a few months left of post to sort it out.  As for now, the skinny CGI looks fine IMO.  He's only skinny for what, a few scenes at the most?  Hopefully it won't fully draw attention to itself during most of its screentime, depending on his clothing and the choice of angles.

It's actually a pretty impressive special effect, it's just a creepy image.

I thought all of the sickly weakling shots were pretty good. The shot of Rogers crawling around in the dirt was the best one.

And about Red Skull, I think

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

the Skull is his "real" face and Hugo Weaving's mug is the mask

Commercial looked great.  Like the bits of comedy in it.  Can't wait for a trailer.  Will def look for this in 2D.

THor looks like ass though.

Doctor Erskine looks younger than I imagined.  Didn't Stanley Tucci say that he was getting the "old man" treatment for the role some months back?  I'm sure he will be great regardless, but he only looks a little bit more elderly here.

Not a Cap fan by any stretch of the imagination but this looks great so far. This will be the superhero movie for me this summer.

Loved the Cap ad. Had about everything I wanted. Still super excited for Thor.

The Skull looks perfect, that was one of the last bits that had me worried. Couldn't imagine a better looking live action version to be quite honest.

This looks like a lot of fun. Didn't know Tommy Lee was in it, who is he playing?

I'm a little surprised by how clean the look is. I guess I was expecting that high contrast Saving Private Ryan look.

Col. Chester Phillips, who recruits Steve Rogers into the Super Soldier program.

Once you see it freeze-framed, it's far more exciting. Howling Commandos! And that's way more Red Skull than I even thought was shown...nice!

Interesting.  Why did you expect that, Gabe?  Going by the fact that it's Captain America directed by Joe Johnston, it basically looked like what I expected (but in a good way).

More likely I think hes Hugo Weaving until an accident with the cosmic cuber something fucks up his face and he covers it up, like the Joker in the Burton Batman.

I'm getting a Rocketeer vibe of fun from this movie. I've never really been a huge fan of Captain America, but this movie is going to be 20 tons of awesome.

I updated the post with some of the screen-caps from here - I hope I credited the right readers but if not, drop a line and yell at me. Really. :)

The spot made me what to see the movie without showing all the best parts. Good job!

Looks GREAT. Wish the spot was longer and I didn't have to freezeframe to catch everything.

I'm on board. It's still early and the teaser is a bit disorienting because of how much it goes through, but everything seems to be clicking. I found a link in HD for us PQ junkies.

All this non-period tech has me worried they're gonna go the same route as the Avengers cartoon and completely replace the Nazis with HYDRA.

I want so hard to love this movie but, wow, what an exceptionally underwhelming teaser. The costume (primarily the helmet) looks goofy as hell.

So, uh, who's the Asian guy in the Howling Commandos?  I don't suppose it's one of the Warriors Three slumming it a bit?  Probably not, but it's interesting to see how they're going international with the thing.

Fecking hell, I guess steroids aren't so bad since they turned him into Charlie Atlas.

He looks like DJ Qualls.

Best Superbowl spot you're making me a believer Marvel. Really like what I saw here. That being said Cap meets The Rocketeer Joe Johnston practically had my ticket sold from the start.

The pre-Cap effects are fucking great. How I wish I had more confidence in the director, though.

More Joseph Mazzello.  Which is kind of perfect, considering The Pacific.

wow. bit of an underwhelming 'trailer' if i had never heard that this was being made, but as someone who has been following this, it just shows me more of what I want without giving it all away.

beautiful

WOW! Captain America looks...All Kinds Of Awesome! It doesn't bother me, if Cap fights...HYDRA, instead of The Nazis. neoolong, Considering, Jimmy Woo is a current S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, that could be his dad.

For thirty seconds I think that there's an impressive amount there.

I'm dying to see it breathe in a full trailer. Steve's relationship with Erskine is important and I really like the look of the dialogue they share.

And for crying out loud seeing Dum Dum in the hat made my heart skip a beat. I was...BOWL-ed over by it. That was for you Duke.

Hell yes! I have been on board from the start damn that looks good.

I'm sorry I have nothing clever to add, just pure geek joy.

I've never been that big a fan of this character, and even I had a big ass grin when that was over. Any time you wanna drop a full trailer, Marvel...

It definitely was my favorite movie teaser of the night, with Super 8 right behind. As someone who has seen the dreadful version they made in the late 80s and given Chris Evan's charisma, I'm hoping for the best.

The casting of Weaving as the Red Skull was kinda the tipping point for me.  Nice to see that the makeup on him looks fantastic.  Captain America is going to be the summer movie for me. Great teaser.

Capt. America's trailer was imo the best among all the Superbowl trailers out, and at the end of the trailer I was really getting excited about this movie. That CGI skinny Chris Evans is quite flawless and believable, and I can get a sort of Saving Pvt. Ryan vibe out of it. Next to Thor, this is my most anticipated movie of the summer.

I just realized something: Did The Invaders get cut?  I though the story was that Steve goes AWOL from the USO tour, hooks up with The Invaders and learns to become a leader etc, but it looks like all his Cap action stuff is alongside the Howling Commandos (who are still a multinational group, but it still undercuts the importance of the Allied and resistance countries when the only superperson is American).

Well Captain France probably joined the Vichy government.

They aren't being completely replaced.  Johnston and various magazine articles have mentioned Hitler and the Nazis (and a strong rumor posits that part of Cap's USO tour involves punching out a Hitler lookalike on-stage), but yes, the primary antagonists are Hydra as led by the Red Skull.  Now whether Hydra is presented as a splinter group of the Nazis or something else entirely remains to be seen, but the "real" World War II is still definitely the backdrop for the film.

As for "non-period tech" remember that this is Marvel WW II we're talking about here, not real-world WW II.  Marvel WW II had Nazis running around with ray guns left and right, fully developed artificial intelligences in synthetic human bodies (the original Human Torch), genetically engineered supersoldiers with indestructible shields with highly improbable aerodynamic capabilities, supersonic jet transports (The Invaders old jet), and lots and lots of giant robots.

I thought the Super Soldier lab looked like it had it down about perfect.  Yeah the "vita ray tube" looked appropriately future-y but the consoles and such around it were all analog switches and dials, etc...

I don't think the Invaders were ever in the movie. I think it was either rumors or a lack of info that led to some online sites calling the Commandos the Invaders.

I know you're joking, but a French superhero during WWII would have been part of the resistance, and therefore a THOUSAND TIMES MORE BADASS than Cap. Yet another reason why "The Ultimates" is deeply moronic.

Part of me was kind of excited by the idea of The Invaders showing up, but another part thought that would have made the movie rather overstuffed, and detracted from Cap's uniqueness.

1) Absolutely agreed about the Ultimates, especially that absurd line.  In the unwritten Cap movie in my head (which probably sucks), it would open with a few minutes stolen from Army of Shadows, with the big reveal (shield first, natch) being Cap jumping in front of about-to-executed members of the resistance.

2) I disagree that the Frog hero would be more badass.  No one is more badass than Captain America.  Is a resistance member more badass than an American GI?  As Catch Me if You Can and Christopher Walken proved, no.  But they are close.

3) Zeus, that is why the joke was really aimed at ignorant Americans, not the French.  And certainly not the same French who helped the colonies their independence in the Revolution.  That would be ignorant.

I'd really like a full trailer.  I am not sold on the film yet, but I am really, really pleased with their Steve Rogers.  Chris Evans should be a home run here, and I'm excited to see a little more of him.  I agree about the Invaders (both their being cool and being a distraction for a single film).

Oh, just the WW2 jokes, to be sure. Ain't nobody above a piss. But ripping on the French for WW2 would be like making fun of some kid for not defending his parents' home from bandits after the same guys came by a year earlier and killed his dad and older brother. You can do it, as long it's funny. That's kinda tragic.
