FOR THE NON-JOCKS: CAPTAIN AMERICA’S FIRST TRAILER - Page 2

Nothing against American GIs, but in general, yes, the French resistance was more badass. The Americans could fall back. The resistance had nowhere to go. They had everything at stake, constantly.

I believe the guy on the far left is a French resistance Howler named Dernier.

So you have (from left to right):

Dernier (French)

Morita (Japanese American)

Dum Dum (mustached American)

Falsworth (British)

Cap (chemically enhanced American)

Bucky (grim n' gritty American)

Well, I still don't have a whole whack of faith in Joe Johnston, but that trailer really did look like a tonne of fun.

...and yes, skinny Evans really does look quite creepy.

Do The Blackhawks count as a French Resistance comic book team? They didn't just have French people I guess.

There looks to be one more Howler hidden behind Cap.  you can see his foot behind Cap's right knee.  It's too far back to be Bucky's.

The official site lists Derek Luke as a member of the cast.  I'm betting he's the "hidden" Howler and either playing Gabriel Jones, Nick Fury's father (a retcon used in the recent Avengers Cartoon), or a young Nick Fury himself.

I bet he's playing Gabe Jones.

Gabe was confirmed months ago by Kevin Feige and Devin:

I might be going crazy, but wasn't there a quick few frames showing someone punching a vehicle underwater?  Desparate Namor fans (ok, me) might be clinging to that.

Freeze framing reveals that Steve Rogers is the window puncher.

Feige talked quite a bit about The Invaders being included.  I haven't read much about it since then though.  I suspect if they are in there, it won't be for long.  I was psyched to see them, but I completely understand if they save them for a sequel.  After all, they have stated time and time again that if there are Captain America sequels they will take place in both the past and the present.

Then again, they might not have the effects for them polished up enough to show them in a trailer just yet.  After all, Feige already said that the reason they waited as long as they did to show a teaser was due to Marvel not wanting to release any footage that didn't have solid effects work in them.  As far as I'm concerned, the effects we have seen are fantastic...........particularly the "scrawny" Chris Evans.

EDIT - Johnston has spoken of the inclusion of The Invaders....

And that Namor will NOT be among them...

And it looks like they will be saved for a sequel after all!  According to Feige, The Invaders will NOT be appearing in this film...

The geek in me is a bit disappointed, but I am glad they scaled back.  Having to deal with Cap's origin, the Howling Commandos, Red Skull, Arnim Zola, HYDRA, the cosmic cube, etc. is plenty of ground to cover without having to worry about tossing in a team of superheroes.  Saving the likes of The Invaders and Baron Zemo for potential sequels is a wise decision.

An obvious joke but, damn, is it great.

Yeah, putting 2 and 2 together from the story in Empire this month, it occurs right after Cap's transformation.  German spy destroys the set-up (ensuring Steve is the only super-soldier ever), then escapes to his mini-submarine with Steve giving chase.  Sounds like it's his "Whoa!  Check out what I can do!" scene.

I'm calling it now. Erskine (with whom Steve has formed a close bond), will be killed in the attack and someone, probably Tommy Lee Jones, will tell Steve to Avenge him. I say that without a hint of irony.

Gabe Jones could turn out to be Nick Fury's father. In the comics he stuck around for years, seeming to never age, and was a member of SHIELD so it's not much of a stretch. As for the Invaders, a JJ Fields is cast as Union Jack according to IMDB. I'm thinking he shows up in a newsreel. Something similar to the opening of Watchmen would be pretty awesome...
