JUSTIFIED: Season 2

Figured this week's premiere (and season) deserves its own thread. I'm looking forward to Wednesday night like I would a major picture release. And I can't get enough of the "Han shot first" promo.

Any theories on major plot points this year?

Here's the Han Shot First promo, for anyone who hasn't seen it.

And here's one that is a take on Dirty Harry.

I mentioned this in the Season 1 thread, but guess I'll post it here as well.  There's another great promo, a quick POV shot of someone looking up at the sky, and breathing slowly. Olyphant comes into the camera's view, kneels down, and says "Hence the phrase 'Die Tryin'..."

Haven't found that one online, just seen it occasionally on TV...

Really looking forward to this!

Damn if only Terriers had this kinda publicity.

I loved the first season, but missed the last two episodes. The premiere of season 2 is tonight, so...

iTunes, anyone? I'm going to have a busy night

Feels like Christmas. A violent, Kentucky Christmas.

CAN NOT WAIT.

Just re-watched the final S1 episode last night in preparation: just an amazing series (and it's always nice to have something that my wife and daughter enjoy as much as I do) .

Honestly, who'd have imagined that either Olyphant or Goggins would so quickly find roles as memorable as their previous series'? Most actors are lucky to get a role like Seth Bullock or Shane Vendrell once in a career, much less follow those up immediately with characters every bit as iconic and unforgettable.

Great point. I'm guessing Olyphant is still gambling on film work, but this sort of thing suits him to a T as far as I'm concerned.

The gasoline bit was GREAT!

Great episode. I had a big 'ole smile on my face when I saw 'and Walton Goggins' at the end of the opening credits.

Pretty fun... but I expect more from this show at this point.

Poor Mulkey. Always getting snuffed after an episode or two on almost every show he pops up on. At least he's relatively safe on Boardwalk Empire.

Good start for Jeremy Davies.

I knew Jeremy Davies was coming on board, but I didn't realize sad neighbor lady from THE RICHES was joining the fun, too! I like that actress.

Anyway, good episode. Loved how they just threw us right back into everything. No sense holding our hand and slowly getting us reaquainted with this world. Highlight for me was the 14-year-old telling the perv every little fucked up thing that was going on his his head while he sat there dumbfounded. Nice.

I want more Goggins next week. Then again, I always want more Goggins.

Getting a strong Winter's Bone vibe from this new storyline.  Good start!

Davies and Mom taking out Mulkey was fucking cold!

Sort of disappointed at the beginning, don't like the idea of the Miami plotline just ending like that (I hope that is not the end of the Miami situation).

Then we get another great episode.

I continue to be amazed when I read the credits for the show, and am reminded that the atmospheric music is by one of the dorks from Toto.

The funniest part of this episode wasn't actually even in this episode. It was included in the "This season on Justified ..." preview at the end:

"Jesus, Raylan, you're like some kind of goddamn hillbilly whisperer!"

I thought it was just amazing.

The most impressive thing about thus show is the way they've captured Elmore Leonard's voice. This really is great work for Olyphant and Goggins.

A season with Jeremy Davies, Margo Martindale, and Brad William Henke playing a hillbilly crime family? Could not be more happy.

Fantastic Episode.

That's her name. Love her. Such strong work by her on THE RICHES (underrated show that). She was good on one or two episodes of HUNG as well. Margo will be a great Big Hillbilly Bad.

Thought you guys would be happy to know, according to the website tvbythenumbers.com the show pulled a 1.3 with the 18-49 viewers (about 3.4 million viewers).  That is up from the 0.8 it had the season finale.

FX is probably overjoyed considering how poorly TERRIERS and LIGHTS OUT fared.

And it does make me happy. I want this show to run for seven or eight seasons.

Very strong opener. Loving that the file clerk from Dexter is the big bad of the season. The scene where she kills the 14 yr old's father is touching and brutal, I love it.

The "apricot" moment was pretty fucking great.

God yes. I remember a moment like it from the Miami Vice movie. But this was so much more badass. I love the way they use the junior deputies (junior? associate?) in this show, they're not the main attraction, but both are proven to be just as badass as Raylan when the time calls for it....

Also, I like that Raylan was kind of shaken up by the shoot out. At least thats what I hope they were conveying in the final scene with Winona.

I think they were just showing a pretty common characteristic of the cop/ex-wife dynamic... which is that he needs to compartmentalize to function, and she needs him to be more present and communicative.

Great ep. And it's a shame that the crook who realizes his partner has gone too far and tries to do the right thing, the heroic thing, always gets killed for his efforts.

Thought it had lots of greatness in it, mostly centered around the ongoing story arcs (Raylan and Boyd, Raylan and Arlo and Helen, Raylan and Winona, Boyd and Ava, Mags and the girl--fucking chilling, that one), and the central crime was certainly intense (the story about the coal train was the perfect lead-in), but there was so much going on that the "investigation" was so simple as to be uninteresting, and if the second marshal isn't going to be featured more heavily as the season goes on, I'm damned if I can figure out why the story needed him at all.

Nitpicks, I suppose, but this series has set its bar awfully high.

Great start. I love Olyphant's exaggerated good old boy persona whenever he's interacting with the locals.

Between this show and Winters Bone..I never want to go to a wooded area. Almost makes The Wire's Baltimore look safe.

Urban violence strikes me as more random.  Rural violence is where the victim almost always knows the victimizer... but you're just more likely to get caught up in shit you never wanted to be a part of.  I know which one I would choose.  Granted, I didn't live in a huge city before, but ever since I moved to the deep south I have seen way more ugliness than I ever imagined I would.  But, at the same time, I would feel much safer leaving my doors unlocked at night.  It's a weird dichotomy.  But, yeah, I would like to move eventually.

Dave Alvin??? Right. Fucking. On.

God I love this show.

Wish there was more of his performance....

but the real question is: When did Dave Alvin morph into Merle Haggard?

It's from the previous episode but I just had to share it:

I think that's always been one of his life goals. He does a great cover of "Kern River."

More Ava, please. Thank you very much.

I love how stupid the criminals are (just like in Elmore Leonard).  The guy who pretends to be Raylan is figured out in no time.  Did he actually think that was going to work?  Hysterical.

Such a strange dynamic between her and Boyd now.  Wonder where that's going to lead.

Joelle Carter and Natalie Zea is the most ridiculously sexy one-two punch on television right now.

Yeah, when they showed her patching up Boyd my jaw hit the floor.

Man, I love crazy southern chicks in TV and movies. I'd probably react more like Raylan in real life, bemused and exasperated more than excited, but damn they're turning me on.

Although I think the "I JUST WANNA SEE MY KID!" trope is trite and overplayed, I nevertheless enjoyed the hell out of last night's ep. The opening scene with the Mags Bennett clan was just great.

Is no one watching this? We've got more people commenting in the freaking wrestling thread than in the good tv series threads.

I love how no matter how threatened she is, Mama Bennett will always offer food.  In a perfect word, Margo Martindale would be on her first leg of an Emmy run.

I'm actually kind of disappointed that it appears that Boyd is getting back into crime.

I'm watching and absolutely adoring this season. They've nailed how to blend the arc stories and the stories of the week.

Love the show, will have a week long set report/interview series next week.

This episode felt a little too meh.  Would rather they focus on Creepy White Trash Family for the duration.

Still one of the best shows on TV right now.

The show effectively balanced one-offs and season long arc episodes last year.  Not every episode has to be about the major storyline (which will clearly be Mags, her family, and the Dixie Mafia).  I'm fine enjoying the slow burn set-up while featuring some of the other characters.

And I agree it is one of the best, and most entertaining, shows on TV right now.  It's living up to how good Season 1 was (which took until the Ruck episode to find it's rhythm, even though it was plenty decent before that).

Pretty hard to beat that patio-conversation between Boyd and Ava. So subtle. So perfect. And him with that wild friggin' hair. It played like an old-time western, or a great '70's Bonnie and Clyde spin-off.

And then we get all the damaged Marshals sitting around the "campfire," discussing their effed-up lives. "...At least you got to shoot your dad." Another great, great, great scene. Then they wrap it up perfectly with that look on Boyd's face, and we just know he's been sucked back into a life of crime.

This show is firing right now.
