HIGHLANDER TO BE QUICKENING AGAIN

There can be only one. Until the sequel.

I'm cool with them remaking this, in fact, it was always the film that (in another life) I'd remake the hell out of. Modern update with better sword fighting, perhaps a cooler leading man. But the Twilight woman writing it? Eh....no. Fan of Lin's work, however, though I don't want to see him get sucked into yet another franchise.

They better just use the Queen songs and not have some shitty new age rockers do a cover of it.

I want "Princes Of The Universe" to be blaring through the theater in it's original version.

That said, as I posted in the comments, I don't mind this lady writing the script, and it having the same love story angle, but I don't want her bringing any Twilight leakage with her.

Amen - but it'll never happen.

I dunno, I have such a profound amount of nostalgic love for the first film, while ignoring the existence of anything else in it's 'universe' that I could almost get onboard this.

Cast Ramirez well tho!

Maybe he'll actually be Spanish this time around.

Maybe they could cast Antonio Banderas as a Scotsman and get really ironic!

I like it.

Speaking of mainland Europeans pretending to be Scottish, I wonder if we'll get someone from the UK as our lead this time.

I always loved that they cast the most famous Scottish actor of all time in role that required him to play an Egyptian, pretending to be Spaniard, while having the movie take place in Scotland. Awesome.

I've always loved the first Highlander film since I was a kid and the sequels have been the source of many a jokes. I've never bothered to watch it but I love that the premise of Highlander 3 is that it turns out that there was an immortal trapped in a cave and now Connor has to fight him to get back the prize that he already won. I don't know how I feel about this remake, the story/concept of Highlander isn't the greatest. What makes the film so enjoyable is Connery, Clancy Brown, Queen and Lambert's heh heh heh laugh.

The Twilight writer doesn't bother me, mostly because this remake has already gone through a few rejected scripts (one featuring Connor sniping someone's head off with a rifle!) and is likely to be rewritten by countless more screenwriters before it actually hits theaters.  With a great writer, a solid cast, and a nice budget............you could do an excellent and incredibly epic remake of the original.

I would love for someone to do an amazing remake of Highlander.  That aside, it is really impossible for this to fail in my eyes simply because they can't possibly make a worse movie than Highlander: The Source.

A "quality" rundown of the franchise, at least in my opinion:

Highlander - Classic.

Highlander II - buck nuts and terrible, but in an entertaining way.

Highlander: The Final Dimension - A harmless retread of the original.

Highlander: The Series - A decent TV series.

Highlander: Endgame - Entertainingly bad,  but only if you liked the TV series.

Highlander: The Source - The absolute worst sequel I have ever seen in my life and one of the worst movies I have ever seen in general.

In the end, only the original is really worthwhile.............and this is coming from a fan of the franchise.  Highlander is a classic in my eyes.  The rest is a poor attempt to keep a concept going that should have remained a solo feature.

I'll rate Highlander: Endgame a little higher thanks to the great fight scenes.

What did you think of Highlander: The Raven?

good luck recasting the Kurrgan. no one will ever top Clancy Brown

Guillaume Canet as Conor. Gerard Butler as Ramirez. Holt McCallany as the Kurrgan. Directed by Cristophe Gans.

You're welcome Summit. Now roll cameras.

Truth. Though I say they let Ray Stevenson give it a solid try.

I always thought Kevin Durand would make a pretty good Kurrgan if they ever got around to remaking this.

He'd be interesting too. Indeed.

Obvious choice, but how about Mark Strong for Kurrgan?

I gotcha Kurgan right here...

Too old. I love me some Perl. But far too old.

Pearlman was in an episode of the Highlander TV series apparently.

Presence trumps age.

Id love to have QT directing this movie. Have Sonny Chiba as Hattori Hanzo make a sword for Macleod. The first gajin to get one. Scotland,Japan and America should be the major locals.

Indeed. All I'm saying is that Clancy Brown was born in 1959. Ron Perlman: 1950. So at that rate we might as well let Brown reclaim his glory.

I wrote this before in the Highlander thread. I'm a big fan of the first one, but I think the movie is too weird for mass appeal. I can't see anyone playing Ramierz and the Kugan other than Connery and Brown. Or least playing it as well as what came before.

I hope they still use the Queen songs. Maybe a remake of Highlander will lead to a remastering of A Kind of Magic. The one good thing about Highlander 2 is when Conor says it says like magic and Ramierz replies'"It is. Kind of." Sean Connery paraphrasing Queen lyrics is why film was invented!

Yeah, the fight with Donnie Yen is aces.  And Methos is great, too.

"I got your sword back!"

"It's got blood all over it!"

"I didn't say it was easy!"

Highlander has always been a good idea written badly.  And that tradition looks set to continue.

I felt like JUMPER tried to catch the HIGHLANDER vibe (or fill that void). And then failed to become a franchise.
