ARTHUR TRAILER FORGOT JOKES

Some Arthur to Arthur trailer comparison.

Yeah, the trailer's timing feels very off, and the beats it tries to hit are all sort of misfires. I hope that the relationship between Brand and Garner is as central to the entire film as this trailer made it seem. There was what? One shot of Greta Gerwig?

Anyway, I'm going to end up seeing this. Why? Because of my massive crush on Greta Gerwig.

I'm so tired the way comedy trailers are now cut. Some old song, pop music you can beat down to followed by abrupt cut in music and a bassy sting sound effect and a joke that isn't funny in the least. Rinse and Repeat. Rinse and Repeat until you say uncle or view trailer credits.

It is weird, considering Gerwig is playing the Liza Minnelli role (ie, the love interest).

I don't think there's much mystery to what was off about this trailer: Brand's acting seems atrociously unfunny.

Exactly.

But he is stretching his leg oddly in a suit! IN A SUIT, man!

Well, as long as there are lazy trailer editors we can be sure that David Bowie's mortgage is safe.

It's super weird.  I spent the whole time watching the trailer waiting for the love interest to show up, and never even noticed Gerwig.

Hey, I laughed at the Outlook joke.

No love for Jennifer Garner? I thought she was good in this.

Same here. By the end of it, I was getting the feeling that Hobson was the love interest instead. Somewhat odd to say the least...

Ditto.  I kind of was wondering if they were ballsy enough to make Arthur gay--a Brtish guy resisting an attractive woman's advances, with no sign of a "good girl" counterpart, I wasn't sure what else to think.

While not as excruciating as I thought it would be, this looks like the classic example of "Hey, they're showing this on our flight" viewing.

Wait, so they're combining the plots of Arthur 1 & 2

...and Arthur isn't drunk? At all?

...and it looks us unfunny as that?

Um, right - enjoy kids. I'm sticking with 'Hello Mr.Johnson" personally.

Everything about this screams "afterthought."

Interesting that they're downplaying the drinking and Greta Gerwig.  Unless a lot's changed in post, those are both pretty big parts of the movie.

Arthur as Billy Madison. Blech.

This film puts my desires in an awkward situation. I think Greta Gerwig is delicious and amazing, and well deserving of at least marginal mainstream success. So, I thusly want her first shot at such marginal success to work out. Yet, I want bad movies to justly fail. Garh! Conflict! Does not compute!

I was just going to ask this question. Is her role supposed to be some sort of surprise?

Anyway, Gerwig and Mirren or no this will wait for a rental.

Don't think so. I think it is just a matter of: Jennifer Garner is famous. Gerwig ain't.

I was being sarcastic. Still it's weird how little time she got.

Looks bad. Brand really seems not to be cut out for lead roles.

A dude who doesn't want to have sex with Jenifer Gardner. What is this science fiction.

I thought it was weird I didn't see much of the actress in the Liza Minnelli role. I thought maybe in the remake Arthur decides to mature on his own. He doesn't need a love interest do motivate him. At least the movie would be doing something different. I don't think that will be the case. Its just what came to mind after I watched the trailer.
