CHRISTOPHER NOLAN AND HOWARD HUGHES: THE WAY OF THE FUTURE?

Christopher Nolan allegedly wants to make The Aviator 2: The Codeine Years.

I'm sure everyone wants more Inceptions and Mementos from Nolan once he's done with Batman for good, not that I blame them and not that I don't feel the same way. At the same time I'd be interested in what Nolan mines from a story about Hughes, particularly if he focuses on the parts of his life that unfold in the wake of the events of The Aviator.

Really, Nolan can make whatever film he wants that doesn't have a crazy billionaire in a bondage suit, and I'll end up buying a ticket.

This could be a great project for Nolan. Hughes became incredibly unhinged in his later years, and it provides a lot of opportunity for Nolan to twist the narrative in the way he's so good at doing. No reason for this to be a straightforward bio.

I'm not sure about casting Leo, though. He'd probably be great in the role, but it would limit Nolan's ability to tailor the film to his sensibilities, since people would basically be expecting a straight sequel to The Aviator.

When Nolan's Howard Hughes biopic was being talked about years ago, it seemed like Jim Carrey was going to star.

That's something I can get behind.

Nolan reminds me of Ridley Scott in some ways (I don't know, he just does), so I could see him handling an ancient/medieval epic fairly well.

Nolan has said on record that Blade Runner(the studio cut!)was a huge influence on him, and that he deliberately tried to mimic Ridley Scott's style in Batman Begins.

I'd like to see him do a medieval flick, too. I can see how Nolan can pidgeonhole himself if he keeps going down the neuro-noir lane.

I completely agree with you.
