Sweetgrass

At times an acutely observed document of a fading way of living, others like a feature length version of the almost biblical bookend sequences from Carlos Reygadas' Silent Light, Sweetgrass is pretty mesmerizing.  It's amazing how such a simple approach, removing all narration and music from the documentary form, can make something seem so fresh. It might seem like a long hour and forty at first, but you feel sort of cleansed after watching it.  Available to stream on Netflix.

Really enthralling, engaging movie. It seems a little dully and draggy, but at the halfway point, you realize you can't take your eyes off what's going on. That bit with the one herder on top of the mountain talking to his mother on the phone was so funny, heartbreaking and pathetic at the same time.
