After killing superheroes, Matthew Vaughn will unretire them with Jonathan Ross.

Ummmm... Kingdom Come? Paging Kingdom Come.

Vaughn can do no wrong with me at this stage, but I can't help but get the faint whiff of nepotism in this new project with the Vaughn-to-Goldman-to-Ross connection personally.

Ross really knows his stuff when it comes to Superheroes, so the Idea of him, his wife and Vaughn doing this fills me with a lot of hope.

As for the comparison to Kingdom Come, yes that's true but this is probably the closest you will ever get to seeing Kingdom Come on screen.

1. I thought this was going to be about that James Robinson and Paul Smith mini from the early nineties, and wondering why anyone would bother.

2. Step away from the cape, Vaughn, do other shit.

I saw the words The Golden Age and got excited, thinking DC/WB were going to be really cool and adapt the epic super-hero tale by James Robinson

Gods yes, considering how wonderfully eclectic his first two directorial outings were, him doing yet another superhero film - ironic, post-modern or otherwise - is frankly a bit of a head scratcher. The guys got talent to burn, it'd be nice if he branched out again.

I agree that Vaughn should step away from the superhero genre.  I suspect he will only end up producing this and the sequel to Kick-Ass (if it ever gets made).

So who would you all like to see as a crusty old superhero?

Didn't Matthew Vaughn just give an interview where he said superhero movies were dead? I supposed I should have paid more attention to the whole, "Oh, by the way, I am also schilling an X-Men movie."

So...Red with capes?

As much as I love Vaughn, I gotta echo the fact that he needs to back the fuck away from comic book movies. With that said, if he can persuade Jack Nicholson, Warren Beatty and Clint fucking Eastwood to star together as retired superheros then - jesus wept - what a show we'd be in for.

As long as he keeps making good movies, Vaughn should do whatever the hell he feels compelled to do. Just because most directors like to dabble in different film genres doesn't mean they should all do that.

While I'd be pretty thrilled to see Vaughn take a break from comic book flicks, I don't think there's a good reason to be upset over him potentially doing a third one in a row (at least not yet). This could be good, if a bit familiar. Of course, if First Class winds up being a stinker I might reconsider my stance, but for now this doesn't bother me.
