The story-as-'origin of the Crypt Keeper' made a lot more sense in the original comics, where the Crypt Keeper was just a creepy dude, not a living corpse.

Well, in the comics he was the actual keeper of the crypts, like a graveyard caretaker. To me that makes MORE sense then some zombie decaying corpse thing that lives in a crypt under a creepy mansion.

 

EDIT: Nevermind, I misread you. I agree.
