Hammer of the Gods! Thor gets his first official trailer.

"Sorry this video is no longer available"

Damn that was quick.

Works for me. It's up on youtube if you can't get Yahoo to work.

It's better than the first trailer. The Asgard stuff looks bigger and some of the "everyone thinks he's crazy" earth stuff might be entertaining. Especially if they actually show Thor inhaling a box of pop tarts.

They need to work on that cg troll monster thing, though.

Looks good.  I was always going to see this but now I'm a bit more excited.

(is it just me or does the new site really really hate google chrome?)

I was not thrilled by the first trailer, and found this much, much more intriguing.  But I think the vague concerns of cheesiness I had with the first trailer were distilled more purely in this one:  I don't think Kenneth Branagh knows how to use CG.  That doesn't mean this movie won't be good, or even very good, but I suspect the effects will be distractingly fake at times, and and I worry it will undermine what are intended to be thrilling action set pieces, or awesome Asgardian vistas.

I'm definitely more on the positive side of the camp when it comes to Thor, but this does kind of remind me of two Dolph Lundgren films: Masters of the Universe and Universal Soldier. Basically I'm saying that Dolph should be in this movie.

In all seriousness, this looks like it might be cool, but I have yet to be really wowed by any Marvel films.

Hm I actually liked the first trailer better: it clearly laid out the basic mythology of Marvel's Thor. My only nit pick is they wimped out and made the Asgardians aliens (yeah I know Marvel first promulgated that idea in the Universe X series, but it's a Lie! A Lie! A Lie!

Is it o.k. to just come down on it as looking competent but underwhelming? I'm seriously not seeing anything special here in performance or plot. And it looks like it's going to spend too much time in a hum drum town marking time until the big bad Destroyer arrives in Act III.

Maybe I'm wrong, but there's a lack of conflict and personality in that trailer that doesn't grip me, despite some nice visual touches.

I must be watching something different than everyone else because THIS LOOKS TERRIBLE.

I have to agree with you.  It's better than the first trailer, and Dennings looks like she's having a ball, but I'm still not sold.

Hey, that actually looks kinda fun now.  Only saw it on the small Yahoo embed, but it's the first time the movie's visuals have looked appealing to me.  Though, I'm starting to wonder if this was shot by the same guy who shot Battlefield Earth.  There sure are a lot of dutch angles...

I think it's a pretty effective trailer, although I miss the brief exchange between Odin and Thor that was in the first trailer. I thought that exchange set up the whole "Thor needs to redeem himself in the eyes of his father" theme pretty well.

I have to admit, I laughed at the diner gag. It looks better than the previous ones, definitely.

And that's a problem?!

No, it looks like fun. Hemsworth looks likable enough, but still badass. I definitely think it could go either way, depending on the balance between earth and Asgard stuff. But I suppose the word 'standard' comes to mind; this looks like a standard 'bad ass is out of his element' thing, but we'll see where Branagh goes with it!

Y'know what, I take my comments back.  I just watched this in HD (after only watching the embed before) and the effects actually look solid.  Asgard looks much more polished than in the last trailer.

Yahoo Movies sucks, why do studios bother releasing trailers on it?

Looks pretty clear to me, especially when you can get a 1080p Quicktime trailer. As far as I know, there's nothing better for viewing trailers...

NOT on board with this trailer's emphasis on the fish-out-of-water stuff. I want more of Thor destroying Frost Giants, and less of him DEVOURING POP TARTS.

i still like it. I also like how they are going for two different vibes for this and the Cap movie, yet I'm curious as to how they will reconcile them both in the Avengers movie. It might be neat to see the different tones filtered into the Avengers (Cap, Thor and IM)

The Destroyer also looks pretty sweet

I am proud to geek out and say I am literally salivating over this movie. Perhaps it's latent homosexuality, I don't care. I want this film yesterday.

Gabe, If I'm honest I was kind of relieved there will be at least some fish out of water elements to Thor's arrival. I think a concept like this will only work with an element of humour and hopefully (at least based on that trailer) the balance will be well judged.

Thor and Loki's final battle on the bridge looks incredible.

Geek out over.

I like a lot of the early Thor stuff - "You dare threaten me with such a puny weapon" etc - and bar some PHILOSOPHER'S STONE worthy troll CGI the trailer looks good to me.

No kidding. Maybe someone with some photoshop skills could reedit the trailer with the correct axis? (EDIT was thinking of this from Renn's BATTLEFIELD EARTH article)

Why would the god of thunder be affected by the shock from a taser?

It looks like he's been stripped of his powers in that scene.

I just want to know who the Asgardian was that was thoughtful enough to make sure that Thor had Earth clothes on when he was transported.

Also, Hollow Man really is not giving Portman a moment of rest in this trailer.

My fave part? Kat. She's the movie's secret weapon.

You know what movie this most resembles? The Helen Slater SUPERGIRL.

Dig it. The humor doesn't read as being painfully forced and out of place, and I like what else we're shown of Asgard. I'm on board with this movie in the first place, this trailer just sort of solidifies that position.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, and Kat is just a doll here.

Think about what you guys are saying. You just saw two minutes of THOR and the highlight seems to be Kat Dennings as the second female lead. Doesn't that indicate a serious fucking problem here?

Sebastian nailed it: SUPERGIRL looks about right.

Still, I've always liked Branaugh. I'll hope for the best ...

Dude what? Just one guy pointed out Kat Dennings. You're acting as if everyone went into some Dennings inspired ticket pre-ordering frenzy.

I went into a Dennings inspired kleenex frenzy - does that count?

(sorry)

Yeah seriously...

I think it all looks pretty awesome. Dennings is just a nice addition that we hadn't had a proper look at before.

Yeah, but I agree with him. Kat Dennings does look like the best part.

Yeah, the fact that he seems to conveniently arrive with contemporary clothing jumped out at me, too.

As for the whole Kat Denning thing, she does seem like she'll be a high point, but I'm not seeing the problem there. Plenty of good movies have small roles that manage to steal the show; it doesn't take away from the movie they're in. (Airplane! is still a great movie, despite the fact that Johnny the Air Traffic Controller is one of its funniest characters.) Hell, I'll bet there's a thread somewhere here just about those kinds of roles.

Besides, I thought Hemsworth and Portman looked like they know the tone the movie's going for. I especially like the way Portman says, "I think he said his name was... 'Thor?'"

I'm not getting BruceL's Hollow Man reference.  The Verhoven movie?  Can someone explain it?

Kat Dennings is adorable. I just want to give her a big ol' hug.

But, call me crazy... you'd think facial expressions and vocal inflection would be things an actor would want to add to their repertoire.

A lot of shots of her standing, mouth agape.  Receiving Kevin Bacon's invisible penis.  Are you really not familiar with this Chud meme?

Please, don't tell me that after all this time you're unaware of The Hollow Man?

Brannagh can do Superheroes it seems, who knew?  Nice looking trailer and the film looks very promising.

Right now, Noojy is sitting at his computer, mouth agape, at the shock of missing a huge CHUD myth-meme.  Insert Hollow Man joke here.

This is me in torment over the fact I must've missed that meme.  Oh... wait... you guys thought that this was a--GROSS GUYS!!!

This trailer chose to emphasize Kat Dennings. That's all. While I'm concerned as anyone that this movie will spend too much time dicking around in the desert (it would be in line with a couple of other Marvel movies, Fantastic Four in particular) I can also understand why the trailer would want to emphasize the scenes on Earth, since they feature Natalie Portman, Current Hot Commodity. I understand why, for budget reasons, this can't be wall-to-wall Frost Giant battles, and I'm OK with that. I just want a certain level of epic epicness, and at least a first and third act that's heavy on the Asgard.

And I'll say it: I love the look of Asgard. I actually sort of love it because it looks fake. It's kind of a throwback to old school movies that weren't afraid to be insanely ornate and stagey--sort of a cross between Ray Harryhausen and Dune.

Oh, and I love that shot of Idris Heimdall in there, possibly just to piss off racists.

Actually that's been part of Marvel's Thor since the Kirby days. Remember, in the early 60s, pure fantasy was still looked at askance in comics, and America still had a love affair with the Atomic Age, so people were way more accepting of something with a scientific explanation, half-assed or otherwise. It's always hilarious to read Silver Age comics that feature some kind of monster or ghost or magical goings-on, which turn out to have some "rational" explanation (which is often "it was actually an alien or a robot").

Still, I love that Marvel's Asgardians are extradimensional beings. It makes them more distinct and interesting from the many fantasy movies we've seen. (And I really like that one shot in the trailer that seems to be referencing Yggdrasil as the source of multiple dimensions.) I also suspect they're playing that up to make Thor jibe more easily with the other, more SF-based Avengers down the line.

Chris Hemworth's arrogant, disbelieving reaction to Denning's character trying to threaten him with the lazer pretty much sold me on him as Thor.

And yes, the troll's CGI at the end is spotty, but I dig its actual design and there's still time in post remaining.

Oh and Thor isn't going to fly in this movie, is he? I think we would have seen something by now.
Or maybe they're saving that for THE AVENGERS? It'll be pretty sad if a caped God of Thunder has to sit in a Jet while a puny mortal flies around in an Iron suit.

So, I'm the only one who found that funny? Because I found that really funny. Can't wait to see the film, if the film is half an hour frost giant smiting, and 90 minutes of Hemsworth being a Viking in LA and the desert I'm all for it.

Didn't Thor not so much fly as fling himself around by his hammer? I know he does that helicopter hammer swing to hover. I doubt they'd go that route though.

Well...it's certainly a trailer...for Thor. Yeah, I'm hardly intrigued, and likely to skip.

For some reason that had me in stitches. Just the image of Thor in full Asgardian gear crammed into a F14...

By the time Whedon's Avengers came they'll introduce wormholes or something like that. Now it's a depowered Thor most of the running time.

I thought this looked pretty decent. But something about Hemsworth look seems....weird. Not his acting or the costume or anything, just something about his face seems off...and I can't put my finger on it....
