Killzone 3

Anyone?

. . .

Hello?

. . .

Was there really not a thread for this?  The game comes out in 3 days!  But I'm sure you guys are more psyched for Bulletstorm. (I pre-ordered both, so yay me I guess.)

I really enjoyed the beta and the demo, I thought, was a ton of fun.  And the reviews have been really positive, for the most part.

The game really does look incredible.  Probably the best looking shooter I've seen.  The amount of effects it's pushing at any given time while maintaining a constant 30fps is impressive.

And I like it's style of gameplay.  I wouldn't call it slow, but more . . . deliberate.  As opposed to COD's whack-a-mole style shooting gallery / oily-slick hyper-speed sprint-knifing.

I also have to say that the Move controls are a friggin' dream.  A few months ago I mentioned MAG's Move controls, which are great, but here they're better and more refined.  Aiming and target aquisition are a snap.  And moving around feels really good.  I'm never finding myself awkwardly trying to navigate my way up stairs or around corners or anything like that.

With the move I was averaging anywhere from 40-60 kills per 15-20 minute match, which is nuts!  I actually had to turn off target-lock because it felt unfair!  I think on the last day of the beta my K/D ratio was over 2:1.

Am I really the only one excited for this title?

Yeah I've been lurking around here for awhile and was surprised that there wasn't a thread about it. And that Alex hadn't written anything for it in the MCP collumn. Maybe the majority of CHUD's gaming community are Xbox only players, which is why there isn't any hype here. Anywho, KZ 3 looks fantastic. I've been playing through KZ2's campaign over that last few weeks or so and have decided that it's the best console shooter ever imo. I've played everything from COD to Halo to The Conduit and KZ2 is just brilliant. Already have the Helghast Edition on preorder and I might pick up the sharpshooter preorder on the way home tomorrow

Glad  to see at least some one here is looking forward to it.

Still, I'm kind of surprised at the general apathy towards this one.  Going throught the KZ2 thread again, it seemed quite a few people liked it well enough*, though it seems most of them don't post here much anymore.

I might knock out BulletStorm first before heading in to Killzone and then its multiplayer.  But both of them back to back might be Machismo Overload.  I think I'll have squeeze in some Back to the Future in between them.

*save for the aiming acceleration, which has been corrected this time around.

I'm definitely excited about this. Killzone 2 was one of my favorite PS3 games at the time, and I only expect the 3rd to build on that goodness.

I downloaded the demo and yep its the same as every FPS I've played in the last few years. I just can't justify $60 for another military shooter with a 6 hour campaign and a multiplayer I won't give a shit about. This isn't a knock against KZ3 per se but even well polished shooters don't interest me much anymore.

Welcome, brother. Pull up a copy of Mirror's Edge and set a spell.

IMO, Killzone 2 is just a cut above all the other FPS games released over the last few years. The gameplay in KZ just feels so much better than like Call of Duty, Halo or Battlefield.

Good to hear. That pretty much ruined the second game for me, although I had some fun with the multiplayer.

Killzone 2 was my introduction to the series, and I couldn't be arsed to finish it. Just didn't find it compelling in any way.

Also, I don't know how anyone can get excited for this when it releases the same day as motherfucking Bulletstorm. That's like turning down unprotected sex with P.J. Harvey to have tea with Anne Murray.

Wait wait wait, PJ Harvey is the attractive woman in your comparison???

She'd be the talented, crazy, slightly unhinged woman who's almost a guaranteed amazing lay versus a stately, attractive woman with a lovely singing voice who has all the arousal ability of a jar of formaldehyde. Bulletstorm's an amazing looking game with a foul mouth, and an absolutely amazing combat/perk system.  Killzone is the same old shit, dressed up pretty. You savvy?

P.J. Harvey looks like the kind of woman who'd just point at your penis and laugh.

I mean, not that that's ever happened to me or anything.

I was completely indifferent to Killzone 2 the first time I played it for a bit.  Borrowed it from a friend, had it for weeks but just could not get into it.  It just felt kind of awkward to play.  It definitely had its own sort of feel.  Looked great, but I just did. not. care.  Eventually though, sometime last year, I gave it another shot and this time i must have passed some sort of hump or hit some sort of sweet spot with it becasue I felt like it just got better as it went and by the time I wrapped it up I can actually say I loved the experience and even started playing through it again.  So I'm actually pretty curious about Killzone 3, especially considering the controls might be a bit more tuned, not that the controls were terrible in Killzone 2 once you get a feel for them.

So I completely love Killzone 3. So far it improves on Killzone 2 in every way. The brutal melee system is a joy to mess around with. The Jet pack has the best jetpack mechanics I've played in any game. The new weapons are awesome. The single player campagn is super fun, even moreso if you're playing co  op. And multiplayer is great as well, though I can't say it improves on Killzone 2 because I never played MP on there.

Yeah, it's great.  I had a ton of fun playing it.  Once I get in a few more hours of BulletStorm, I'm gonna tackle the Elite difficulty on this one.

Enough can't be said of how gorgeous this game is.  It's truly one of the best looking shooters to date.  You really have to see it.

And everything in this game not only improves upon what 2 did, but also adds a lot.  They added a healthy does of mission variety this time around along with some massive set pieces.  I really liked the few really intense and claustrophobic close quarters fire fights.  A lot of people didn't care for the on-rails sections - and normally I don't care for them myself - but they're pretty thrilling and just plain fun here.

The story is fairly slight, but really well paced along with the action.  Overall, the game's got some pretty terrific voice acting.  Mcdowell and Winstone especially seem to be having a ball.

Then there's the amazing DTS surround.  If you're not playing this game through your loud home theater system, then you're really missing something.  It really adds to the immersion.

I also dig the fac that the Helghans aren't pussies.  This isn't CoD where a three round burst to the body will destroy an enemy.  Nope, 3 rounds to the head will kill the "Higs", sure (two the blast their helmets off and one to scramble their brains), but some of the heavier armored ones can take almost a whole magazine to the chest before being put down.  They're tough.  And when 8 of them have you pinned behind cover and are moving around to flank you, shit gets intense.

I did find the cutscenes to be more than a little intrusive, usually coming in when things seem to be ramping up.  A couple times a cutscene would play and I'd think, "Why am I not playing that part? That'd be awesome."

I also thought it was funny they stole a section of Medal of Honor, of all things.  With the mission where you sneak up on enemy troops and silently take them out while whispering back and forth to your partner who has an awesme combat beard and shades.

And then there's the end, which is pretty weak especially after what fucking crazy thing just happened [

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Inadvertently aiding in the destruction of an entire planet along with possibly thousands of your stranded comrades

]

It's almost quite literally, "Damn, wasn't that crazy?" Cut to black. Credits.

Still, a damn great game and so much fun.  Can't wait to really dig in to multiplayer later on.

Still haven't gotten done with the campagn. But I've heard from everyone I know that plays Killzone that the ending is like "Well why didn't we just do that in the first place?' But the cutscenes are really sweet. I just wish there was more gameplay inbetween them because they shoved alot of cutscenes in. I haven't even cracked open Bulletstorm yet which everyone tells me is blasphemy.

One thing I love about the Killzone series is that the standard assault rifles look and feel awesome. I would seriously consider buying the ISA variant if it were real.

Gunplay is second to none.

Did anybody else think that Narville looked too young?  He's in command, and he's voiced by James Remar.  Dude should look older.

Other than that, it was a pretty fun ride.  It seems to pull from a number of other games, but that's okay since it usually worked.  Played an MP match with bots, and it was fun enough.  Probably going to jump into the actual MP later.

You got Lt's and young captains doing the same job with the same amount of men overseas right now.  I never got the allusion that he was commanding much more then a hundred or so guys.

True, but he's voiced by a guy in his fifties.  Narville sounds way older than he looks.

This game is a fucking snooze fest.  Should be called KillZZZone 3.

Finished it.  Thank God I rented it because if I paid $60 for this stale piece of shit, I'd be pissed.

Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel.

This is the greatest gritty military FPS since the last gritty military FPS was released!

I still haven't finished campagn yet. I'm always playing multiplayer with my clan, which I must say the multiplayer is fantastic. I haven't had a single game drop yet, and I play for hours and hours at a time. Also, this has nothing to do with the game itself, but there has only been one annoying stereotypical online asshole incidant. There was some redneck guy(if you heard what he sounded like, you would call him a redneck) screaming at us in the lobby to switch our controls to the Call of Duty layout and was giving us a tutorial on how to do so(as if we were so dumb that we didn't know how to switch control schemes :p). I didn't change my control layout because I like Killzones default controls. Anyways we lost the match and after we were done he was super pissed and was screaming at us, blaming our loss on the fact that we didn't have COD controls on, and he said he was going to report all of us on psn. Idk why I posted this, I just felt compelled to do so.

Finished the campaign. It was a really good campaign, although I have the same complaints as everyone else. It was short, more cutscenes than necessary, WTF ending, but all of that is forgivable from where I stand. One thing that I liked about this game, is that I cared about all of the characters. Sev's character had a lot more backbone in here than he did in the last one, and Stahl/ Orlock were awesome bad guys. Fuck Rico as usual. I cannot believe that this game is doing so poorly however. Homefront is good, and I'm glad that it's doing well but Killzone 3 should have had sales that were comparable at least.
