LUHRMANN BELIEVES IN THE GREEN LIGHT: GATSBY FILMS IN 3D

If ever there was a film that would benefit from post-conversion to 3D, it's MOULIN ROUGE.

As someone who made a Cliff Notes adaptation of the novel using music from American Beauty, Fight Club, and The Untouchables, I'm very interested to see if Luhrmann can top my visionary masterpiece... in 3D.

I'm actually very interested to see what Luhrmann can bring to a straight-up drama with 3D.  Is this the first such project for a 3D film?  Are we finally getting the equivalent of a 3Dinner with Andre?

The way that movie is edited, I think it would cause eyeballs to burst.  Especially in its first half-hour.

The NES game seems like a better approach to the story.

I'm going to invite a lot of hate by saying I couldn't stand the book. Renn was writing for humor, but "white people melancholia" seems very appropos for this novel.

And I'd be hard pressed to think of another kind of story more ill-suited to Luhrmann's sensibilities. Hell yes to carefully post-converting MR to 3D; rape and pillage my eyes, Baz. But stay away from straight historical drama. The kind of restraint it calls for is antithetical to your DNA.

Having just read the novel for the first time, this news has me both intrigued and extremely skeptical that Luhrmann can pull this off.  This almost just sounds more like an excuse to explore a 3D CGI version of 1920's New York City rather than trying to tell Fitzgerald's story.  DiCaprio is about dead solid perfect as Gatsby, though.

Agreed that DiCaprio could do a great Gatsby. I just have no interest in it as a film, no matter who directs it.
