New music video is blatantly Gaspar-infused.

What you said. It's a cool look but it really doesn't fit the song.

One of his best videos for one of his best songs.

Please tell me where "paying tribute" becomes stealing because while some people might see a homage, all I see is a rip-off. What, just because he's Kanye West he gets a pass for blatantly copying someone else?

^ Have to agree. Loved both Enter The Void and Kanye's last album, but while it's nice to see another indication that this movie is on it's way to cult legend status I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable seeing such a direct lift from a movie that still isn't that widely seen.

I feel you. If it wasn't so fucking new (and underseen) I might feel different. But then again, a) I'm biased because I cannot fucking stand Kanye West, and b) ideally this will actually get people to check out Enter the Void because in this day and age, I have to imagine most that take note of the typography business will hear about where it came from.

That's a prickly issue because yeah the film is new, but how many other music video explicitly state their influences, even if they blatantly copy something? Or where are the pop-up notations during Tarantino films that explain each stolen shot or set-up (which often come from very very recent movies). It would have been nice for them to have found a graceful way of sliding in some credit, but this is the well-established nature of pop-culture I guess.

Also, for the record, not a fan of Kanye.

No, it is and those are all good points. Honestly, I just hate Kanye West with a passion that only burns brighter every single time one of his goddamned albums gets automatically hailed as a work of genius and "oh, best album of the year." So I'm incredibly biased.

If Radiohead or The Melvins or basically any other band I enjoy did it I'd probably look at it as good promotion for Enter The Void.

Will you guys calm down.  He made a hip hop video that is an homage to a little seen indie film that came out last year.  Cry rip off all you want, but that is cool.  There's more to this video then Enter the Void as well.  The image of Kanye on top of the police cars is a striking image, and I love in the middle section when they show him adjusting his pose - highlighting Kanye's insecurity.

Kanye's made videos that were homages to horror movies before - I don't think anyone was saying that he ripped them off.  If I was Gasper Noe, I'd be honored.  Imitation is the best form of flattery, right?
