Hollywood's hunkiest Midwesterner is in talks to join Superman.

Gotta say, that's pretty damn inspired casting in my opinion.

Great casting, in my opinion.  It will be interesting to see what other actors Snyder is able to bring on board and what roles they will be playing.  He is off to an excellent start so far.

My only concern for the film is that Lex Luthor is made a main or supporting villain.  We don't need yet another Superman movie with Lex as the big baddie.  I have no problem with them introducing moviegoers to a new Lex Luthor, just as long as it is in a small role and he isn't used as the main villain for at least a film or two.  Between the four Reeves films and Singer's Superman Returns, we have only had ONE movie where Lex wasn't the villain.  The character needs a cinematic rest so that we can give some of Superman's other adversaries a shot.

I always root for Costner. Always.

That's pretty fucking spot on casting. +1 for Superman.

nice. didn't expect that.

Snyder has always had pretty good instincts for casting, it should be fun to see who else he calls on to round up the cast (especially with half of Hollywood already tied to those 9-film Marvel contracts)

This is perfect casting, diamond perfect, but I don't think I trust this film. I'm of the mind to believe that Nolan producing credit is all smoke and mirrors just to heat up public interest on a project being made solely to beat a legal deadline (he's basically tossed it in interviews like he doesn't give a shit, and I'm confident he doesn't). Films have been made worse reasons and with lesser talents involved (though Snyder is looking more and more like a paper tiger), but I can't shake the feeling that this will end up being another film in which Superman digs a grave for his cultural relevance, a more stylish grave, with speed-ramped digging, but a grave nonetheless.

Christopher Nolan's role as a producer only really factors into the pre-production.  He helped Warner Bros. get a story they liked together, selected a director, and now he's off to make his third Batman movie.  He has stated repeatedly that he will be a hands off producer and let Zack do his thing.  Pretty smart actually, because if the film is a success he will get a ton of praise.......................and if it is not, he can pull the "I had no real input during filming or post" card.

Bottom line?  Anyone out there thinking that Nolan will be ghost directing this Superman movie is in for a rude awakening next year.  This will be a Snyder film through and through.

Are you talking about Nuclear Man? Because Lex was responsible for him.

Superman III is the only Luthor-less Superman movie we have been given.  He was the lead villain in films 1, 4, and 5...........and a side one in 2.

I'm not saying that Lex Luthor shouldn't be present in the new one.  I am just saying that he shouldn't be one of the villains this time 'round.  Play him off as a sinister businessman if they want him in there, but save him as a villain for a future sequel.  If they want to use a cinematically established villain, then bring back Zod.  At least that would change things up a little.  If not, then give us someone we haven't seen yet (Darkseid, Brainiac, Metallo, etc.).

I think he's talking about Richard Pryor in Superman III.

I don't mind if they introduce Lex, but only if it's in a supporting role in his evil CEO iteration, and not how he was portrayed by Hackman and Spacey. I don't think he should be the main villain though.

EDIT: SD Bob Plissken basically said everything I just said first.
