Argento has his Van Helsing.

I think that's great casting. If the movie gets made. It would be cool to see him cast as a good guy; doesn't happen very often.

But now I'm wanting to hear stories about Hauer's on-set difficulties.

Yeah, don't bogart those Hauer stories.

I hope Adrien Brody plays Dracula.

Someone needs to confirm whether this is the first time a Dutch actor has played the Dutch Van Helsing.

I suppose it was uncool to tease like that. But as the stories come directly from people I know who have worked with him, I think it would be poor form on my part to put them out into the interwebs - as unfortunately the best story is very specific to a certain film and certain other person.

Though I will say that another story involves him delaying shooting for several hours because he was off banging an extra and no one could find him. Hauer's probably proud of that.

On one hand, I condemn this as very unprofessional.

On the other hand, I say HELL YES.

I just came on here to say that it's cool there's finally a Dutch actor playing the part of Van Helsing.

The only Argento I've seen is Suspiria*, which I love, but Ive heard almost nothing but toxic reviews of all his other films, so I don't know if this is good news or not.

*Though I know he co-wrote Once Upon A Time In The West, which is probably my favorite movie ever, so I have to give him credit for that too.

I just hope this turn out better than his last gothic adaptation.......http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119889/

It's awesome that Hauer will be in this.  That aside, my one shred of hope for this production is that Argento is excited by working with new equipment (3D camera system) and that it sparks his long-dormant insane creativity for shots and set pieces.

Dude. Argento has a KILLER body of work. Several genre classics to mine in that filmography.

Indeed.  From his start through the mid-90s, Argento was pretty damn consistent when it came to directing (and to a lesser degree producing) quality work.

I know it was mentioned that he has a knack for onscreen villainy, but what of his blood-sucking resume?

BUFFY? SALEM'S LOT? DRACULA 3: Legacy?

He'll have played both Dracula AND Van Helsing. I don't know anyone else who's done that. History is in the making!

Nope, not interested. Argento is, sadly, too far gone.

I think it was Eric Red who told the story about Hauer refusing to come out of his trailer on THE HITCHER because he'd convinced himself he was a terrible actor and he was ruining the movie.

Someday there will be a great book full of RH stories. I imagine it will probably start with that discharge from the Dutch Navy, and just get more awesome from there.

I love the guy and will watch this movie at some point, but he's even further away from his glory days than old Dario (have yet to see The Rite, don't have much hope for Hobo)
