Fuck. Fuck!

Yeah, that sucks.

Awful, awful news. His script work for the Justice League/Unlimited series was consistently brilliant.

Shit. Time to dig out those back issues of Damage Control.

Someone over at Millarworld reminded me of this:

Yow. I was just reading a review of All-Star Superman (the movie), which he scripted, and being reminded of how good a writer he was in the animated stuff. He always seemed to get a raw deal from the comics industry.

Dwayne McDuffie was a really talented comic writer. The Milestone books weren't as good when he stopped writing them and focused more on editing and running the company.

And he'd been doing great work in animation since the STATIC series. I watched ALL STAR SUPERMAN today and McDuffie did a very good job adapting the comic.

He was also really accessible and answered about a billion question from fans at his website.

What a punch to the gut. Shadow Cabinet was one of my favorite team books of all time. Donner and Blitzen, lesbian superduo, without any fetishization at all. Rocked my world.

Throughout his entire career, he was one of the good guys. Comics and animation really lost somebody special.

Dwayne McDuffie has died-- too soon, too nice, too young, too goddamn talented.

Easily one of the most revolutionary and most multifacetic writers in comics, and his influence and work was key to many; a sad and huge loss for comics and animation this is.

I just received an e-mail from a friend of mine who had once written with McDuffie at Milestone.  Not having followed comics or a lot of superhero animated series in the past decade, I had no idea who he was.  But in the e-mail, he linked a video to this interview that really bleeds into Comic Fans are Fucked Up and Shit territory.  I liked him immediately and now want to seek out his work.

I remember that Black Panther mini-controversy. It was in McDuffie's Fantastic Four run that ended way too quickly.  People were upset because he outsmarted Silver Surfer or something. NAYYYYYYYYYYY THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!!!

The freaks who bitch up a storm about stuff like that really don't deserve to be thought about or responded to. They're the people who want to read the same shit over and over again and will keep buy the comic they're ENRAGED because they don't want to have "holes in their collection".

McDuffie also invented the Tommy Wespheral Theory. Little known fact.

I've had this retarded dream of writing the official story of the DC Animated universe for a few years now, mostly because I'd love to interview the guys responsible. Thanks for that video nooj, it's the closest I'll ever get to the real thing.

Man I'm sad about this.

If Dwayne McDuffie did nothing else outside of Damage Control, I'd still list him as one of the coolest dudes in comics. The fact that he also countered a lot of racist shit in comics, was funny as fuck, and just an all around awesome in general just makes me even more gutted. Guy was just a class act.

Hahaha! Seriously he came up with that? I know he did the sixth-degree article, but that just made him even more awesome.
