CHUD.com's 2011 OSCARS PRIMER

-

The 2011 CHUD.com Academy Awards Prediction Thread

Use this thread to discuss the upcoming Oscars, and it will also be our discussion thread the night of the show. That second link is to our predictions thread, where you can submit your predictions list. Winners will receive great shit! We're locking the thread at the start of the ceremony, so don't forget to get yours in.

Finally, we have dedicated threads to each award so you can vote on what you think SHOULD win, and discuss the individual categories. It might be a bit unwieldy at times, but we're hoping it will allow for really interesting discussions about the specific groupings, some of which are diverse and some of which have clearly superior front runner.

We want to turn this big soggy bag of ass into a really fun event for chewers, so we'll be looking for all of you to tweet with #CHUDoscars hashtag with pictures from your parties, or thoughts on the red-carpet. Putting together that front-page guide, creating all of the threads, and cross-linking everything took a pretty exhausting amount of effort to set up, so I can't express how much I will personally appreciate your help in getting them out there. Help out by sharing the guide on Facebook and, most importantly, participating in the threads!

Thanks guys, you're the best.

Apparently Hanks will be presenting Art Direction and Cinematography right away. Those are both awards that I see King's Speech losing, even if there's a pretty solid sweep. I think Deakin's or Pfister have it regardless (and then Social Network following them), but if King's Speech takes Art Direction, that'll be a harbinger of a boring, repetitive night.

Quite right mate. I think it is interesting Cinematography will go early. They may be trying to make up for not showing any clips last year. Which btw, is a big issue for me because not only is it my favorite category, but Cinematography is most deserving of having clips shown over any other technical category. My opinion of course.

Hey, where is Animated Short, Visual Effects, Best Doc Short, and Live Short?

I'm gonna be in the chat room for The Oscars just like last year.  We few that were there had a great time.  Anyone who is interested, stop by.

Hi everybody check out my oscars special show

Anyone else streaming the ceremony in with "All Access" thing through the OSCARS site? I don't have cable anymore, so that's how it's happening at my joint. Hoping it isn't a clusterfuck since it cost $5. If it works out, should be worth it though.

I hope, for your sake, that it is worth the $5.

I am waiting for the live streaming pre-Oscar show from one of the film sites that discusses the movies. Bonus to the one that lands a spot on the Red Carpet and asks film questions instead of dress questions. Although some nice talk just now with Armie Hammer about directing styles.

I'm all about the red carpet, and boy do some of these ladies look a mess.  Jennifer Hudson looks jaw-droppingly good.  Yowza!

Not sure we have enough champagne in the house. Already one bottle down. At the end of the night might be switched over to the Jameson's. Yeah, tomorrow is going to hurt.

Somehow Warren Beatty has morphed into my granddad.

To each his own. I'm with the AV Club commenter who wrote "Hey, it's one half of Jennifer Hudson!"

And I swear Jennifer Lawrence is wearing a dress that Scarlett Johanssen wore to the Golden Globes a few years back.  It was the year Isaac Mizrahi squeezed her boobs on the red carpet.

Re-reading Easy Riders, Raging Bulls. Funny to see what has become of Warren Beatty.

Alright, let's get this started.

Tom Hanks is looking rather svelte.

Seemed like Wahlberg slimmed down too.

Back to the Future? The fuck?

I guess they're trying to appeal to the regulars now.  Like the MTV movie awards.

No Deakins?  Wow.

Could Inception surprise us?

I'm being told Wally Pfister worked on porno movies, and that that's actually not a joke.

I know he's worked on the softcore erotica of the post-Basic Instinct 90s.  Are you talking about PORNO-porno?

I find that hard to believe.  Porn would have looked better.  "We have to go deeper!"

Steinfeld should be nommed for Best Actress.  I hope she wins.

Is it too late to amend my death pool?

Nick's commentary is spot on.

Bleh

I guess that's why you're supposed to have a speech prepared.

Holy shit. This is like the second coming of the Marissa Tomei rumours, I predict.

Fire the writers.

Justin Timberlake blows.  Not funny.

But thumbs up for Kunis.

I turned it on just in time to laugh at the THIS IS TORTURE reaction shots from the nominees while old man Kirk rambled.

It's great to be here at the 83rd annual Awkwardness Awards.

Fuck it, let Kirk Douglas take over the show

Was Toy Story 3 really that good?

So what was the deal with the Shrek Animated screen that had to cut away from?  I noticed Timberlake said, "Wouldn't it be cool if it was Banksy?"

Have to disagree with Nick. Franco is stiff. But Hathaway is doing a pretty good job.

Somebody prepared their speech in the mirror.

Thought he said, "wouldn't it be cool if I was Banksy."  A callback to when he claimed he was a little earlier.

I thought King's Speech was based on a book.

I thought it was adapted from a dude's life.

Is Bale gonna be charged a fee for that mid-ceremony commercial?

Naw, it was heartwarming.  Heartwarming I say.

Now they can slap "Academy Award Winner, Christian Bale" all over The Dark Knight Rises promotional material.

King's Speech was developed from an unproduced script originally envisioned as a stage play. Hence, Original.

P.S. Kidman is the warmest place to hide.

blech.

Salt, really?
