Firth is going to win this, no doubt, but I feel that this isn't the performance he should get it for. It feels like the Academy is doing the "You should have won last year, so here you go" shuffle on this one because Firth deserved it last year. I know I'll be called a a Philistine on this, but I felt that Hooper pushed Firth to a performance where it seemed that he was aping Sean Penn in I Am Sam in that he ended up overplaying the affliction to make it more front and center than his character. I simply felt that it got pushed into the gimmicky realm, but then again I disliked the King's Speech in general (aside from Geoffrey Rush, who is in great form).
