MOVIE OF THE DAY: DARKMAN (1990)

I still maintain that this is Raimi's best superhero/comic book-esque film.   So much fun. 

This movie is pure excellence. Raimi totally underutilized his trademark camera angles in the Spider-Man series. I think the only time it was really evident, was during Doctor Octopus' awakening in the hospital.

Darkman? He dutch camera angled the shit out of the movie. Plus it's the first time we got to see Neeson as a badass, and Larry Drake earned a high spot on the best villains ever list for playing Durant. So did Nicholas Worth as Paulie.

First saw this movie when it was first in the theater back in 1990 with my folks, and it's been a movie that I've loved ever since then.

I was leery about showing my girlfriend There Will Be Blood, but to my surprise she loved it.

I like not love DARKMAN, too. (Ratty, you're crazy!) I think the problem for me is the miscasting of Frances McDormant. I think Hot girl of the moment Julia Roberts was in the running, and I think she would've been perfect (also preventing the suffering of future geek backlash). I'm not big on Larry Drake either, but I'm always shouted down when I bring up that complaint.

I'm all for civil discourse and the need for two sides to a debate, but goddamn man, I would probably shout you down too (if this wasn't a text based environment).

Love this movie. My first introduction to Raimi and I think it was love at first sight. Cheesy and over the top, yet awesome in so many ways. Always loved Durants penchant for cutting peoples fingers off with the cigar blade.

I'm with Damon. I like and appreciate what it does but I just cannot connect with it.

Nice write up, Damon. Like Ratty, I love the movie unabashedly for all the reasons you don't quite.
