All except for, you know, the star.

And of course Sanada starred in the fucking awesome Twilight Samurai.

Is there any word on how Keanu's ethnicity is addressed in this production?  Is he just playing a Japanese character?

I don't know anything about the source material.

And Twilight Samurai WAS awesome.

When the project was first announced a couple of years back, Chris Morgan had mentioned he was developing the character to fit Reeves' Eurasian features so he's probably not going full Japanese.

One good thing about both Rinko Kikuchi and Kou Shibasaki being cast in this is that takes their names off the list for Aronofsky's Wolverine.  I'm hoping for Haruka Ayase (they'll probably get Jamie Chung).

Looks like after many false starts (Alien prequel, Creature From The Black Lagoon, Logan's Run, etc.), we'll finally get to see what Carl Rinsch is made of in the world of cinema.

What an under-appreciated movie.

Anyway, this is my favorite story from Japan and besides Keanu I like that they seem to be approaching it with respect.

Googling some pics of Keanu, he could pass for being of Japanese descent.

If this is a highly stylized take on the story, then Keanu definitely passes as anime as well.

Indeed as he is also playing Spike in the Cowboy Bebop movie.

Is that actually still happening?  Doesn't seem like that project has gained any traction for a long time.

There is some "Asian" in his "CaucAsian"...

"Reeves' mother is English, and his father is a Hawaiian-born American of English, Irish, Portuguese, Hawaiian, and Chinese descent"

Kou Shibasaki also joins the cast, with a much smaller resume.

Let it never be forgotten that Shibasaki was the delightfully unhinged Mitsuko in Battle Royale.

Nice!  I literally haven't seen her in anything since Battle Royale.

Cowboy Bebop has stalled, but it's not dead yet.  I fully expect Keanu to try and push it through again should he have another hit or two...........................or if WB's live-action Akira remake does well.

Last I heard of the Cowboy Bebop movie, Keanu has said point blank that they keep re-writing it, and it keeps looking like it would cost a billion dollars. Which it just might.
