That's funny.  I'll have to try that. I've tried to stand on a jet, but I get blown off. I can't seem to stay on tanks either.

I wonder how they recorded that from a PS3.

Aha! I was wondering what your Chud username was when you showed up in the party the yesterday.

Honestly, there were several times that I got very, very lucky during those Squad Rush games.  Of course carrying around an LMG with 100 bullets in each clip does help a bit when you tend to spray bullets like I do.  At least some of them are bound to hit the target.  I don't think firing an LMG from the hip would be recommended in real life, but it seems to work pretty well for me in Battlefield.

So the other night I had a crazy lucky shot. I always see those vids where the sniper ace takes a shot at a heli and hits the pilot and the chopper drops like a rock, killing everyone inside.

I've tried it a few times and was lucky if I even hit the chopper, but I still try like a dumb ass.

So the other night I was fucking around and gave it a try. I hit that pilot fucker in the dome and that chopper dropped like a rock. It will never happen again, but it was sweet.

Booted this up after watching that video clip of that one guy impersonating Liam Neeson who goes on killing all of France. That's the kind of game I wish battlefield could be, but I was just that guy who eeked maybe 4-6 kills trying to support my squad here and there. I need to get back to my beloved Battlefield 2 tactic of just hanging out from a distance killing folk with c4 and mines....which just always brings a smile to my face.

Anyone playing this still?

I was being one of those dicks that buzzes that damn MAV around trying to run you over. I stayed in my base camp and just sent that fucker out to just irritate the ppl on the other team. I actually roadkilled three dudes. They had to be pissed. That's always a pain in the ass when you are trying to sneak around the bases and somebody is just buzzing the shit out of you.

No one on my team could be bothered to try and capture any flags, so I figured I'd be a dick to everyone.

I hate matches like that. If you don't want to capture flags or attack/defend MCOMs, don't play the objective-based game types!

I'm still playing.  Just reached Colonel and I've built up quite the collection of medals.  Oh, and the USAS is my new best friend.

You and everyone else dunlop with that blasted USAS. I haven't unlocked yet. I guess eventually everyone will have it and it won't be special any more.

Right now though, that fucking thing destroys.

It will always be special.  Always.  I really want to unlock the Jackhammer now.  I wonder how it stacks up.

What is the Jackhammer? Is it that other auto shotty that you unlock with the assignments?

I've picked it up off of a few corpses and it works about the same to me, but I don't have a lot of playing time on either one. That's the last assignment that I need to unlock.

I've read a few forum posts where some like it better and some prefer the USAS still. It's probably just a matter of taste.

I put the single player disc in the xbox for the first time today and was bored to tears in 10 minutes.

There should be the option to get back in the truck and just spend your time listening to Johnny Cash music.

I fucking hate the USAS. I don't use it out of principle.  Once somebody gets frag rounds in that hing, it's cheap death city.  The thing that bugs me the most about it is that the frag rounds don't have any sort of damage penalty over distance.  It's already annoying as hell to get killed by one close range, but when you're getting killed from WAY across the map by one, that's just stupid.

If you ask me, Battlefield 3 would be improved immensely by completely getting rid of all the shotguns from the game. Short of that, get rid of the frag rounds or severely nerf them so that if you try to use them, your gun backfires into your face, causing you to die three times in a row out of spite.

I fucking HATE the frag round, shotgun assholes in this game.

Oh, and Battlefield 3, you know that loading screen tooltip you have about frag rounds not doing much damage but being great for suppression......FUCK OFF! You are a lying piece of shit! If by "supression" you mean, "blows enemies to hell, thus supressing nearby teammates with body part shrapnel" then maybe I would believe you.

Note to self: try using the frag rounds for the USAS

PLEASE JOIN MY PLATOON ON BATTLELOG IT IS CALLED "NIGHTSTALKERZ". LETS DO IT. AND IF YOU HAVE A ANDROID SMART PHONE THERE IS AN APP CALLED "BATTLEFIELD 3 STATS" ITS DOPE AND VERY GOOD.

The jackHammer is a army prototype that has never went into full cale production.

I don't mind the shotguns, I favor the M1014 myself, but it does suck that they can kill you with those frags rounds from across the map. They need to decrease the range at the least. That USAS with frag rounds is a portable howitzer, just blasting shit apart.

I see that note and think the same thing. I guess whomever wrote that never played the game.

So, three new maps packs for Battlefield 3 have been announced.

Relevant info from press release:

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.

Battlefield 3: Armored Kill – Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.

Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

I also read a quote from someone at DICE saying that custom servers will be coming to the console versions of BF3 in the future. It's a cool idea, I suppose, but I wonder how many people will actually bother to run one at this point.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many console peeps out there are going to deal with running their own servers.

The map packs sound good. There is supposed to be some gameplay footage coming out next week for the "Close Quarters" pack. Hopefully that just doesn't turn into a shit storm of USAS12 w/frags just toasting everyone. I'm already getting tagged from what should be out of range for those fuckers.

On the brighter note, I actually got a kill while flying a jet. I'm actually doing better piloting. Usually games filled with no kills and plenty of deaths, and no help to my teammates, but without private servers, I have no other way to practice.

Anyone on the PS3 play since the update? Now they are rolling with the custom servers on there, you can get in some interesting games.

I ended up on one that was all Metro and started out with 1500 tickets for each side. They had the USAS blocked, so it wasn't as bad as it sounds, but it was a long friggin match.

That sounds horrible to me. Even without the USAS, I wouldn't want to play on Metro for that long. It is the worst map in BF3 by far, at least in my opinion.  Now get a 1500 ticket game going on Caspian Border, Operation Firestorm, Kharg Island, Gulf of Oman, or Sharqui Peninsula and I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately for me, I'm playing on 360, and we still don't even have an ETA for this patch. I'll still enjoy playing the game though, so I'm not too up in arms about waiting for the patch.

Yeah, it becomes a pain in the ass. Last night I ended up on a server that was just Metro and Grand Bazaar and kept rotating those two maps. At 1250 tickets for each side, once one side takes over, it's just 60 mins of getting your shit pushed in.

I was on one game that limited that and as soon the other team held everyone at their base, they had a limited time pillaging and then they all had to spawn back at their base and stay there. It gave the losing side a chance to capture some bases and get out of the shit.

Of course when the other team is made entirely made of a single clan that actually works together, it doesn't take much time for them to over run and capture all of the flags again.

I really like Grand Bazaar actually. I think it's because you can go straight up the middle AND around the sides. Plus it's still got some vehicles.

Metro is just a straight shot, and it has no vehicles. Because of that, there's not nearly as much room for variety and different tactics to make every match feel different. Metro plays pretty much the same every time you're on it.  IMO, it's the only BF3 map where you can make that claim.  Every other map plays differently each time due to different players employing different tactics.  Metro is usually just a long, drawn out slog at normal ticket counts.  Upping that to 1500 tickets just doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

But that's fine. Other players can have their Metro-only custom servers. I'll look for ones that don't have Metro at all.

Realized lately that in the post-Christmas rush, I haven't played this in a good two or three months. How big are the updates so far? Checking because we have data caps and, well... DICE do love their honkin' big updates.

Well, there hasn't been anything since Karkand released in December until now. From what I hear, this new patch is somewhere around 1GB on PS3 and 1.5 on PC, so I imagine it will be around the same for 360 once they finally get around to releasing it for that platform.

Cool, cheers for that. Will have to watch out for that update. I need to get back on this game.

It looks like the XBOX release date is 04.03., which is basically tomorrow. They announced it today.

I'm actually going to pick this back up tomorrow after months of not playing.

The PS3 version still has pretty bad input lag post-patch.  It's really annoying, since I wanted to jump back into this.

I just dove in for a couple hours; first time playing since the patch (PC).  Suppression ribbons are a lot easier to get now (3 supp assists gets you a ribbon), and the frag rounds have been nerfed a bit.  Or at least it feels that way.  Also, stingers are much more effective and will bring down choppers / jets in a single hit, only the range is significantly shorter.

Feels good to be getting back into this though.  Just got my shotgun medal, although it was mostly from USAS whoring.  However, I'm almost to my 4th LMG medal.  That's a stat I'm proud of.

They changed the stingers so that they can reload and aquire the target faster than the target can reload their flares. It's still tough to get a jet, but I have downed a few choppers in the last few games. I'm sure people will bitch about this and they will change it back, but they need to leave it like this or the choppers will own the infantry on the ground.

The javelins have also been boosted a little. Two will put down a tank now, rather than three like before.

Noshar Canals can be a bitch on conquest with those Little Birds, but I can now get a few with my Igla. Either that or they need to put the AA gun in conquest too and not just the rush modes.

"I just dove in for a couple hours" this is annoying in BF3 or other FPP modern games. You wait months to buy it, you get it, and you done it in couple hours. In past FPP games was longer. Anyone remember Duke Nukem 3D or Wolfenstein 3D (the first one from 90')

I'll have to download the patch later today and jump into some games tonight to get a feel for what has changed. I'm definitely looking forward to the nerfed frag rounds.
