2011 MLB Season - Page 5

I'm going to assume Craig will fill his position and hit #2. At least, I hope so. Holliday just annoys me.....Cruz and Napoli are playing with injuries, and not mention Hamilton has played with a hurt groin/sports hernia all series. Just wish Holliday could show that type of grit.

So question other than the Reds, has there been teams that have come back from the "1 out away from winning it all" disappointments of game 6?

If the Cards end up winning this thing, and it ain't looking good for Texas, I really don't have a problem with it except I don't like Tony LaRussa and I really hate the idea that a wildcard team wins the WS.

Was that Albert Pujols' last on-deck appearance in a Cardinal uniform??

Wild Card winning the series is a common occurence now.

Was that Pujols's last sunflower chew in a Cardinal uniform?  Jesus, these announcers have been driving that shit into the ground for the past month.

EDIT: How the hell did the Cards win this thing?

When I was making playoff picks at the beginning of the postseason, the Cards were the one team (well, other than the D-Backs) I gave no consideration to.  Crazy.

I can state with 100% confidence that neither of these two teams will be in the World Series next Oct.

Bud Selig is a creepy old fuck.  Did he really have to read all that shit off those pieces of paper?  Just say congrats and hand over the hardware.

Obviously I'm still immature as I found the celebration picture funny on ESPN.

Celebration Rimmer?

That's America. USA!  USA!

Come on! Who doesn't end up with somebody's ass in their face in a dog pile?  You should hear the stuff that goes on in the pile for recovering a fumble in football.  This one's good clean man-love between teammates.

Still can't believe that the Cardinals actually pulled it out.  Once they made it in, it felt a lot like 2006 but when they lost those two in a row to Texas and got down so much to Texas it was looking pretty bleak.  These guys somehow managed to come back and it was great.  Game 7 was almost a let down after the intensity of Game 6.

And yeah, so sick of the "This could be Albert Pujols last <insert word here> as a Cardinal" announcements.

If you would have told me that the Cards would lose Adam Wainwright before spring training, be 10 1/2 back at the beginning of sept, and StILL win the Series........ I would have laughed in your face. Congratulations Red Birds!

And hang in there Ranger nation, your time will come. Team has too much talent not to win at least one sooner than later.

Just look at how it worked out for the 2004 and 2005 100+ win teams for the Cardinals. And then to win it all in 2006 with a team that backed into the playoffs?  Luck does still play such a huge part in the whole thing.

Yup. It's mostly about whoever is hotter going into the post season. That's why I can see how some hate the wild card. I for one love it.

Washington fucked up games 6 for the Texans.  He was playing game 6 like a regular season game.  He should have pinch hit for his pitcher in the 5th with the bases loaded and 2 outs.  could have broke the game wide open.

Then to take out your closer with the 8/9/pitcher up was stupid.  He may have given it up last inning, but he could have mowed those guys down.

That's why LaRussa is the best.

But the 2006 Cardinals didn't even come into it hot.  Any team can turn it on in the post season.  It definitely seems to help LaRussa's teams to come in as the underdog though.  When they're expected to win they seem to play too tight.

Woops, for some reason I thought they snuck in late in 2006 like this year.

And it's La Russa's style. He seems at his best when they're underdogs. I think he keeps them all wound too tight, that it only works when they are dogs. If they're favored, they get too arrogant and his style rubs the wrong way. That's why I completely understand why many people hate La Russa. I have a buddy who's a huge Braves fan....worships Bobby Cox. HATES La Russa with a passion.

Tell that to the 90s Indians.

Regarding the WC winner winning the WS- baseball still has the lowest percentage of their teams getting into the postseason of any of the major sports.  And although it has worked out that a lot of the WC winners are teams that have gotten hot going into the tournament, there's no less of a chance a division winner could be getting hot around that time, unless they purposely shut it down.

Well st Louis better send the locker room of the Braves a couple bottles of the bubbly.  Without them this wouldn't be possible.

LaRussa retiring.  Going out on top.

NOOOO!!!!!!! *throws self to the floor in Wal-Mart tantrum style*.......he will be missed.

Yeah, as long as he doesn't get all Favrey and come back somewhere else in a year when he decides he misses it.

If he comes back it will be in some other capacity.  A front office type of thing.

As long as it's not the Cubs, I won't mind too much.
