Expendables 2 will not be written or directed by Sly.

It's a shame, not many directors these days have the right B-Action sensibilities. Hire Scott Mann, The Tournament was the shit!

Issac Florentine, John Hyams, Shane Black or even Neil Marshall would be my picks. Let's hope they get a decent fight coordinator this time around at least.

I was thinking Florentine, but he seems to have more of a grasp on martial arts stuff. Marshall's a great call.

Neil Marshall's a long shot because he tends to go for Fantasy/Sci Fi stuff.

Antoine Fuqua would be another good pick. Shooter, Tears of the Sun and The Replacement Killers were decent action flicks.

As amazing a choice that Shane Black would be, he is tied up with Iron Man 3 (2013) now and I don't want to wait another three or four years for an Expendables sequel.  Save Black for a third one if we are lucky enough to get one.  Besides, I have a feeling this sucker will shoot late 2011/early 2012 for a fall 2012 release.  My votes...

- John Hyams (who has already worked with Dolph & Van Damme)

- Wayne Kramer (who works with Sly later this year)

- Neil Marshall

- Isaac Florentine

Marshall has been chasing studio properties (Conan, Predators, Drive, etc.) for awhile now and has so far been unsuccessful.  While he has primarily done horror/sci-fi, the man has other interests and would be a great choice.  That said, whoever takes on this job had better be willing to collaborate heavily with Sly.  Stallone won't choose someone who is going to creatively clash with him over how the film will turn out.  We're going to get an up-and-comer or a director who hasn't quite hit it big yet.  Either that or someone Sly has already worked with before (Renny Harlin?).

I have to say, I will never get people's love for US: REGENERATION. I thought it was well shot but pretty miserable.

I like that Sly's not writing this, maybe now the characters won't sound so retarded. And with the Space Cowboys guy working on the sequel, there's potential for lots of Old Geezer Jokes, which would be awesome. One thing Sly should have milked more in the first movie: humour based around tough guy dinosaurs. And the whole deal was old school actioners showing the new school "how it should be done", but he never brought that into the script in an interesting/clever way. I say spell it out, have fun with it, celebrate it.

As for directing- I dunno, only Sly really gets Sly action these days. And he might change his mind. But assuming he does go with someone else, I think more important than hiring the latest hot action guy (since somebody else could probably oversee the actual shooty stuff e.g. Stallone himself), will be correcting the biggest problem of part 1 by using a director who understands how to get the most out of an ensemble of badasses. Only one I can think of who has the track record, who is still alive, and who would accept the job would be Walter Hill.

Wayne Kramer or John Hyams to direct.

Get Michael Jai White involved pronto! Andrei Arlovski is a bad man and would be an effective henchman for Randy Coutore to battle. The fella who plays Mr. Eko too!

And give me a fucking body count! These motherfuckers need to bleed and die horribly- 'tis the life of a mercenary!

I want the violence BRUTAL, no pussy CG shit i must see meat hit the lens!

SuperJim17, Well for most...Awesome, would be, Outstanding!  G.I. Joe Rise Of Cobra was my favorite film of 2009, so AAA as Heavy Duty being outstanding in such a stellar film as, G.I. Joe ROC is a...Positive!

Sly needs to asks Jet Li who he wants as his director so the guy can have some decent fight scenes and not that choppy crap we ended up with.

Just came to say, the action scenes weren't as bad as everyone thinks.

Could it have been improved? Hell, yes. But I've seem worse. A lot worse.

The action was good to solid it wasn't the greatest and it had some amazing flourishes. I welcome a new director I think Sly is a bit overworked of late.

The Tournament helmer (sorry I am lazy) or Hyams, Florentine or even odd choices like Florent Siri would work for me.

Special requests for actors still include Jai White, Adkins, Van Damme and yes more of Lundgren and Li.

Getting excited just thinking of the possibilities.

Has anyone suggested Rodriguez? If he's not in "green screen land", I feel he could still do something great with this, and he worked with Stallone when he was arguably at the low point in his career.

Nexus-7, Robert Rodriguez, directing...Expendables 2, would be...Awesome!  I could also see...Antonio Bandaras, as an Expendable, with Salma Hayek, as his Cousin or something, kidnapped by...EEEEEEEEEvil White Slavery gang or an EEEEvil Arab that wants her for his harem, that the guys could make...Expendable through the Expending, of numerous rounds of bullets.  White Slavery was...Huge in 80's Action Series!  T.J. Hooker, The Fall Guy, Sledge Hammer etc, to name a few!
