AMC - The Killing - Page 13

A watershed moment in American television. To those comparing this to Twin Peaks, please. Lynch should take note: THIS is how you end a murder mystery.

Looks like there's a new gold standard for the police procedural in town. David Simon, step aside. Veena Sud just owned your sorry ass.

ETA - Why does my nonsense today keeps floating to the top of the next page? I suppose I'll tone it down.

I never compared it to Twin Peaks.  I simply stated that the show attempted to create that vibe, starting with it's tagline and advertising for the show.  I love Lynch, but let's be fair Twin Peaks had some real trouble in it's second season.  It took the last episode to pull it all together and make it the best show that has and probably will ever be on television.

So please read before you accuse people of comparing shit to greatness.  Besides, aren't you the guy who thought Rosie's parents were the killers?  I might have to go back and check before I make any false statements, but if true, maybe you should just refrain from the sarcasm for a bit.

Well with this show ANYONE could have been the killers because the clues laid out were meaningless and lead nowhere really.

Yeah, the "red herring of the week" procedural format really didn't work for me. It's a style that assumes stupidity from its audience, since we're supposed to fall for the, "No, really, THIS guy/gal/quadraped did it for sure!" cliffhangers over and over. That was the biggest, earliest indicator that The Killing was much less than the sum of its parts.

Ratings indicate The Killing will be canceled, and I hope so, as AMC has proven that it can do better.

Who was the killer in the Danish version?

It was Belko. Which made much more sense than this convoluted bullshit that you know they decided on when writing like the last 4 scripts of the season.

 But! from that piece:

The Danish version, "Forbrydelsen," on which "The Killing" is based, is currently in production, so if AMC execs want to mimic the fortunes of that skein, the template has been set.

I thought it was a one-shot mini-series, not a regular series. So, Ms. Sud still doesn't need to come up with her own murder scenario or original characters! The writer's room sighs a collective "Oh thank God."

After much deliberation, we’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season,” said the network in a statement. “AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.

I bet the 2 leads are happy.  They got their name out there for bigger things.

This firmly puts me into the "There has to be a God" camp.

He still allowed for the first two seasons to happen. Where was he when we truly needed him?

I am reading The Source right now, a historical novel about the founding of humanity in Israel. In it, God says to a character abut the Hebrew people who are worshipping him and other gods, "I punish you to show you how much I love you. To bring you inline, you must suffer."

Before watching Breaking Bad, I recite this prayer, "Thank you God. I appreciate good television, for I have seen the hour of doom and wrath you called The Killing.  As the rainbow reminds me of your promise never to flood us, may we never forget the Killing, lest we go back to that valley of shadowy death. "

Fuck.

I am staring through a rain-spotted windshield into the middle distance. I step out and hunch my thick wool turtleneck's collar a little higher against the cold. I light a cigarette, stand meaningfully for a moment in the rain, then wander off into even worse lighting as a lonely synthesizer plays a single, mournful tone.

Netflix and DirecTV are in competition for bringing this back for Season 3:

http://tvline.com/2012/08/22/the-killing-season-3-netflix-directv/

...And yet, Blood & Chrome still languishes in limbo-hell.

You know what would be hilarious? If Dish bought it.

"The Killing, not available on AMC!"

That would be funny, but it would backfire. It'd be like bragging to an ex that you now have herpes, unlike their current significant other, which only has Breaking Bad.

They started showing a Marathon of Season 2 episodes here. Decided to catch a few episodes because of this thread and out of curiousity.

The whole thing was so...uninvolving. I just didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Not Stan. Not disabled Campaign guy. Linden has potential as a character but she's just so one-note here. And is it just me but are all the Cops kinda dumb?

Gave up after 3-4 episodes. Sneak in to catch the series finale. Not going to miss this series at all. No Siree.

Aaww snap, AMC rockin tha Veena booty call, homeslices!

Upon hearing the news, cast members explode into previously unseen levels of rapturous emotion:

Hey, it was a ratings and critical disaster! Of course someone should pay for more!

Don't ruin this, Farsight.

Please happen.

Linden's answering machine: *BEEP*

Holder: Yo, Lindo. I knows you there. Picks up. Wheres you ats, girl? You went AWOLs, I knows. But I tracked you down cuz I gots MAD SKILLS.

Holder: Time to comes out the jungle like Tar-zen. They are re-opening the Lar-zen investigation.

Linden (picks up phone): Holder....leave me alone. I work at Hardee's now.

It's official. Season 3, back on AMC!

The final scene of season 2:

Linden walks down a rainy street, having just exited her partner's car. Leaving police work and the Larsen case behind her, forever. Hands in her pockets, shoulders scrunched, hair in a scrunchie, chewing on Captain Crunch, she slowly walks towards something just possibly a little bit brighter. Linden feels a weight sliding off her soul. She knows that she will never let herself get wrapped up in another murder case. The last two almost broke her. She needs to be whole for Jack. And for herself. After countless hours, days, months, years of chasing answers, she has come to a hard truth - solving cases is a meaningless outcome. Solving only promises more pain for the loved ones and herself. So...goodbye badge. Goodbye gun. Goodnight moon. And goodbye Richmond.

Holden: (rolls down the car window): "Yo!  Lindo. Gets back in the car, son."

Linden: "OK."

Ooh ooh ooh:

A year after closing the Rosie Larsen case, Linden is no longer a detective. But when her ex-partner Stephen Holder’s search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden, she is drawn back into the life she thought she’d left behind.

[fist pump, points to Matchstick with a victory glare]

Also committing to resolve the mystery in 12 episodes. Or are they??

Take your shoes off, or your socks are gonna be blown right the fuck through em.

Elias Koteas added to cast of The Killing.

He will be playing Linden's ex-partner, "a well-respected and intense cop with a personal secret."

You're goddamned right he is.

I was hoping he would have one of those open public secrets.

KOTEAS in the HOUSE!!!!

So, I just watched this show, and I'm experiencing some pretty intense emotions--anger, disbelief, resentment, relief that it's finally over. For me anyway.

I have viewed some pretty shitty shows in my time. I was one of probably five people who watched the sitcom based on the Geico cavemen. I made it through three seasons of Heroes. I watched both The Event and FlashForward in their entirety. And finally, I was a feverishly devoted watcher of ABC soaps for over 20 years.

Without a doubt, The Killing is the worst show I've ever watched. EVER. How I made it through a marathon of two seasons spread over two weekends was due solely to the actors. I just finished the finale two hours ago, and everything is so loopy and convoluted, I'm not even sure what I just watched. So .... Rosie was NOT a hooker making weekly deposits in the thousands? Is that right?

I'm livid that this show is coming back for a third season. Veena Sud is not worthy of the opportunity, she is the worst showrunner in television history.

She's a pile of Sud alright.

That is some impressive self-loathing going on there.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO YOURSELF?!?!

You need to watch more bad TV, then. So much out there (or not out there any more) worse than this, admittedly, pile of shit.

Boo. Those hearts should all be broken. :(

Best. Valentine. Ever.

Quote:
The Lovelace actor will play Tom Seward, a condemned inmate for whom the clock is clicking down. He's described as a lifelong convict born into poverty and crime who has been in and out of the system for violent crimes since he was 10. Never wanting to appear weak, every interaction for Tom is a challenge and one he must dominate.

We've got a Lecter! (I feel like Leslie Vernon crowing "I've got an Ahab!") We've got a Lecter!

Gosh, hope he doesn't spitefully take vital murder-solving information with him to the chair! (SPOILER: Koteas is the murderer.) (SPOILER: That's his personal secret.)

Time for more good Police Work!

Liden: (Recorded) "*Sigh*......Leave a message. *BEEP*"

Holder: "Yo, Lindo. Dey killin' mad teens. I needs your helps, yo. Partnerds, for life, feel. Word. Word....glance me back whens you gets this."

This is like a train wreck... except we've already seen a train wreck and know full well not to watch.

Season two's ratings crashed. I can't wait to see how low they go for a show nobody wanted saved (or will admit to wanting saved, anyway).

I just wish they'd air it against The Following. Which show would the mentally unstable choose?!?

Looks like you'll be doing double duty in June, Matchstick!

I can't be thinking of tuning into this, can I?

That depends on how much you hate yourself.

And for the record, I'm apparently the only person here with any concern for Matchstick's health. Encouraging him to watch is like giving a man with cirrhosis a bottle of Jack because he's funny when he's wasted!

I am thinking about blaming Matchstick for this show getting renewed. He watches it, writes about it, and next thing you know, web analytics say it is popular with men 18-45.

I know what will happen. I'll be watching Mad Men and before I know it I will be tempted by teasers and trailers and shots of rain and Linden chewing gum and like a moth to a flame I'll be drawn to the Season 3 premiere.

Looks like they'll be a The Following crossover!

The next chapter is being written

I think this show is unfairly maligned, to a degree. It had great characters and atmosphere, but got too bogged down in the byzantine, endlessly twisting and turning murder mystery plot. If they find a way to come at the themes the first season explored from a new angle, and don't get bogged down in endless red herrings and shocking reveals, they could really redeem themselves.

Just watched the promo - a serial killer this time around? Got more of a Silence of the Lambs vibe than The Following, personally.

I'm gonna miss Billy Campbell.
