Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump

It premiers tonight...did this sneak up on anyone else? I didn't even know they had picked their next roastee let alone filmed and edited the show.

Anyway, I can't imagine it's gonna be as funny as they have been in the past with Giraldo not there. Dude was almost always the MVP of these things.

anyone else watch this? the situation was painful to watch, almost to the point where i felt bad for him... almost.

Overall i think Larry King won the night, but the new guy had some of the best jokes. (loved when he got to lisa lampanelli. "you're cool") nothing will ever be as good as the Shatner roast but this was solid.

Marley Matlin was the standout of this whole thing.

So that's pretty fucked up.

I typically love these things and yeah there were some really solid shots. And yeah the new guy was pretty good but all in all these roasts are starting to feel...............off somehow.

Off because Roasts used to be a person's friends and peers roasting them, and now they're a stage full of the same people that have never met the person they're roasting and just insulting each other?

Well no not exactly. I don't know it just seems like the Flavor Flav and Pam Anderson roasts were so amazing. Now it seems kind of like they are going through the motions or something. I mean they are still funny enough to watch of course but I just feel like something is missing. The last couple haven't felt "right".

i think someone pointed out exactly what the problem is. Roasts used to be done by close colleagues and friends. when you Roast a friend, you can really go for the jugular but there's always a sense of respect and admiration.  Larry King exemplified exactly how a good Roast should be.  He could get as offensive as he wanted up there but never at any moment do you feel any animosity.

Whitney Cummings has gotta go. Even the Situation's disaster of a roast was more entertaining than her segment. Also, i never thought i'd say this, but i actually like Seth MacFarlane as the host. He's good at this kind of thing (better than he is at cartoons anyway).

I tend to like most of these things. But as obvious as it sounds I think the quality depends on the roastee and the "guest roasters". It seems like Comedy Central is just picking the most outta left field people they can find to compliment the comedians. Like Hulk Hogan and Jerry Springer on the Hasselhoff roast, Gary Busey for Larry the Cable Guy and Snoop Dogg in the two he's been a part of. I think that's why it seems to be off.

Another factor is how much Comedy Central cuts out. It sure as hell looked like the new guy said something else to Lisa Lampinelli after "you're cool". But all we got was her laughing. And supposedly Whitney Cummings was up for a lot longer than the 2 minutes Comedy Central showed during the Hasselhoff roast. You can almost always tell there has been a cut when they go to a crowd shot.

The Situation Bombing was awesome...maybe the best part though was when they cut to Ice-T just shaking his head.

Gilbert Godfried was aweful.

Loved Snoops line about how no black people watch the Cleveland Show. And how Trump becoming President would just be another example of him kicking a Black Family out of their home.

The show was defentaly missing Giraldo. But I guess we are getting some kind of tribute show to him on Friday and it looks like they are running alot of his Roast stuff. So there is that.

And yeah McFarland does work pretty well as the host. I'm glad he knows better than to go into the Stewie or Peter voice.

I didn't see it, but as an extension of the "group of strangers" thing, it seems like when you have Bob Saget or Shatner on the dais, you could sorta take the comedians halfway seriously when at the end they would say "but seriously, you're a great guy/I love you/you've been a real inspiration to me..."  How do they do that with Donald Trump?  "But seriously, you've been a walking punchline my entire life, the advent of reality TV has only made it worse, and, uh....well, I had good time in Atlantic City once, so I guess...yeah..."

See both of those lines were hilarious. However I don't like celeb roasters. They are often funny but the problem is I know they didn't write those lines so it's pretty hollow to me. All the pros write their own shit and the celebs have jokes written for them. Comedy Central hires writers specifically for the roast to write for the celebs. Whitney Cummings used to do that were explains how she appeared there and I bet you it's a similar situation with the new guy(what was his name?). Although I gotta say I actaully like Whitney. She went on Stern after the Hasselhoff roast and read some of the stuff they cut. Good shit that they really should leave in.

Oh and yeah I know people have writers for awards shows and of course the late night shows and even certain parts of standups acts but to me this is different. I always felt this is a contest to see who can be the meanest/funniest.

Jeff Ross probably jumped up to defend the Situation because he wrote the material.
