Don't you mean, "do him another big favor?"

Before these get tossed into the mix of speculation (be it positive or negative), they are already otherwise occupied....

- Zack Snyder (Superman: The Man of Steel)

- Robert Schwentke (R.I.P.D.)

- David Slade (The Last Voyage of the Demeter and/or Daredevil)

- Len Wiseman (Total Recall)

- Bryan Singer (Jack the Giant Killer)

- Joe Carnahan (The Grey)

- Rob Cohen (Alex Cross)

- Brett Ratner (Tower Heist)

- Wayne Kramer (Headshot)

- The Wachowski Brothers (CN9 and Cloud Atlas)

- Michael Bay (Pain & Gain)

- Joseph Kosinski (Horizons)

- Carl Rinsch (47 Ronin)

- Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages)

- Jon Favreau

- McG

Directors who seem to be available for shooting later this year:

- James Mangold

- Pierre Morel

- Matthew Vaughn

- John Singleton

- Guy Ritchie

- Sylvain White

- James McTeigue

- Neil Marshall

- Nimrod Antal

- Robert Rodriguez

- Louis Leterrier

- David O. Russell

- Neveldine & Taylor

- Francis Lawrence

- Edward Zwick

- The Hughes Brothers

That's around the type of director that will probably end up with this gig.  There are probably a lot more, but I don't feel like tracking down info for them.  Some could give us a good movie, others are less likely to.  Anyone expecting a big shot like Chris Nolan or James Cameron or Quentin Tarantino to come onto this is an idiot.  Look to the directors that have only had a few hits or up-and-comers.  Personally, I have no idea who I want for this job.  That said, I have to admit that I am happy that some of the more fearful choices already have jobs lined up.

Of those, only Mangold, Ritchie or McTeigue sound even remotely interesting. And I doubt Ritchie's actually available. HOLME 2 is going to keep him tied up for a good part of this year. And I don't think Mangold or McTeigue could counter Fox's inability to not fuck things up.

@ joeypants, yes. I'm not sure what I was going for there.

A decent list I'd say. I contributed to a piece on another website where we brainstormed Matt Reeves, Francis Lawrence, Jaume Collet-Serra, J Blakeson and Ji-Woon Kim as potential directors.

Though am I the only one hoping that they let McQuarrie direct his own script?

David Twohy needs something to do... anyone anyone????

Isn't Twohy doing Chronicles of Riddick 2?

Looks like there's a rumor going around that the split does indeed have something to do with Black Swan and Aronofky's bargaining power or lack thereof. It's being said that Aronofsky demanded complete control and FOX more or less telling him it might be best if they parted ways. I don't really care about the project at all, but Hollywood politics are interesting to me.

Having a directorial yes man worked so well for X3 and Wolverine... might as well bring on another one

What about another Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller team-up?

Barry Woodward, I...Love your concept of...Marvel Team Up (of Directors) Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller!  The Wolverine, would be...Awesome!

That sounds like the worst thing ever.

No Frank Miller directing a green screen Wolverine movie by himself would be the worst thing ever.

Or the best thing.

Either way, it would probably better than the first Wolverine movie.

wadew1, Either way, Frank Miller directing solo, or a...Frank Miller/Robert Rodriguez team up, would be a...Big improvement over a, Darren Aronofsky Wolverine film!

yeah Duke... because style over substance is always better..rolleyes.gif

NickP, Style over...Substance?  Darren Aronofsky has...no substance.  Robert Rodriguez is one of the better action directors working today.  Darren Aronofsky has not directed...One good film.

I forgot about Reeves and Collet-Serria.  As for Ji-Woon Kim, he'll be tied up with The Last Stand, which is a revenge actioner with Liam Neeson and will be his first English-language project.  I hope they go for McQuarrie...................if he is actually interested.  I'm betting on Fox chasing hard after Robert Rodriguez for this though.  They seemed pleased with how Predators turned out (especially since he is producing the next entry in that series, if it happens)  and were trying to get him to do Deadpool for awhile, but he turned it down to make Spy Kids IV instead.  If RR doesn't do The Wolverine, I guarantee he'll still end up doing Deadpool.  I would say his sensibilities are far more in line with the latter, so I hope he passes on this if it comes his way.

Twohy is definitely going to be available, unless funding for the next Riddick movie miraculously comes together before the end of the year.

I don't know if The Last Stand is happening, since Neeson seems like he was strongarmed into doing Taken 2 during the same period The Last Stand was going to shoot. As for Robert Rodriguez... well, to be honest, I don't think Deadpool is EVER going to happen, because Ryan Reynolds would need a clear spot in his schedule, and it doesn't look like he will for a couple of years down the road at this point. Add to that, I don't really think Fox wants to spend $80 million or whatever on an R-rated superhero film. The script is pretty decent, so it's too bad.

I think it might be a moot point depending on how well this new  X-Men "we swear it's not a reboot!" reboot works out.

Why not have Edgar Wright direct Wolverine?

After Scott Pilgrim bombing, I don't think working with Fox would be the best bet for Wright.

Chaz, Edgar Wright?  He is already up for...Ant Man.  Just what Marvel needs to replace Darren Aronofsky, another so so director.  Edgar definitely does not have the...Wright Stuff, for The Wolverine!

At this point, I want a complete diasaster of a movie, so yeah, hire Frank Miller to direct.  Have him direct the fuck out of the film so that it contends with the Spirit for worst POS comic adaptation this side of Howard the Duck.

I say let Mel Gibson Direct this. I think he would be ideal.

sorry duke, most of the time I'm down with you, but this is so wrong on every imaginable level.

Damn damn damn. Damn damnit.

DAMNIT

What's Willard Huyck doing these days?

Sorry for the bump, but I was bored and found this thread an entertaining re-read.  It's almost hilarious how much things have changed in the past six months.

- Mangold did indeed get the gig.

- Twohy actually HAS gotten financing for Riddick together.

- Neeson has left The Last Stand and Arnold has taken his place.

- Reynolds' schedule should be a lot freer now that Green Lantern and The Change-Up have tanked.  Green Lantern 2 is doubtful and even if it happens, I suspect it will be sans Reynolds..........so Deadpool actually has a stronger shot of getting made.

- Miller is gearing up Sin City 2 with RR for a "now or never" proposed fall shoot.

- First Class turned out to be a good movie, but didn't really break the box office.....so who knows what is in store for the franchise beyond The Wolverine.

- Aronofsky is doing.................nothing.

This is some ridiculous speculation but:

With Aronofsky's wife leaving him, filming "Wolvie" overseas could've been a cathartic experience for the guy & we might've seen a truly furious & romantic Wolverine film born out his personal troubles.

Art Decade, James Mangold is a good choice, to direct...The Wolverine!  I am sure that  3:10 To Japan, will be better than anything Aronofsky could have produced!
