Potential cast for the Akira adaptation.

Such blinding white skins!

Poor Efron.

Fuck it.  I wanna see Donald Glover in that red pill jacket!  He already kinda did it when he dressed up as Michael Jackson in Thriller.

This whole project is just the worst shit ever.

What the hell kind of a mix is this? Depending on the actor combination it ranges from "I must watch this" all the way to "Burn the negatives" by way of "This is the funniest pair-up ever." Imagive Phoenix and Pattinson cast as best friends. Doesn't the thought put a smile on your faces?

Fassbender and Pattinson! Unbelievable.

I can sorta see it. Pattinson has a certain broodiness but Garfield is a far better actor.

Who the hell put Fassbender in there, the man is in his thirties.

Aren't they casting a little old for the roles they are filling. And whats with the Japanese names for English actors>?!?!

They should rename it 'Alan' for the western market, Alan = box office gold!!!

I have zero perspective on this, I've been way too much a fan of the original feature for too long and just don't know how a live action version wouldn't end up a mess of Cecil B DeMille epic proportions.

I'm kind of fascinated by it tho - like, car crash fascinated. This casting news only enforces that.

I think Phoenix is even older than Fassbender. I guess they're changing the "school friends" part of the storyline, if these are the actors they're pooling from.

I honestly don't mind Pattinson. I mean, they cast him and Timberlake and it'll be a mess. But I think either paired with a strong actor would be fine. Well, not fine, since this just seems like a bad idea all around. I'm not sure why any of these guys would look at this. They're all big enough names that they should have opportunities that don't come with the inevitable backlash that this is going to bring.

Garfield and Pine are at least the closest, age-wise, to what the roles should be, Robert Pattison morphing into a giant pulsating testicle while Joaquin Phoenix fires a shoulder-mounted laser at him makes me giggle uncontrollably. Which is NOT the reaction i should have.

also, anyone who saw Garfield in Red Riding 1974 would know he has the best chance of nailing that Leeds accent

I hope it's Pattinson and Hedlund because I don't give a fuuuuuccckk about this movie.

I like how they can whitewash a major Asian property like this, but they can't even pay lip service to the idea of Black-washing or Hispanic-washing it. It's a cash wishlist, they can't randomly throw Anthony Mackie's name in there for shits and giggles? I can't see beyond shits and giggles for a reason to squeeze Joaquin Phoenix in there.

I don't really give that much of a damn what they look like (I mean, come on, shouldn't the natural inclination here be to cast Asian actors, etc, etc). I'm more interested in their relative suckitude. Point blank: It's high.

I'm only really interested in the animated-to-livescreen bizarre visuals on an academic level at this point. Like creepy teddy bear and kaiju size shunting.

The audacity of keeping the Japanese names while using the prerequisite Caucasian actors is really the only reason I'd want to see this.

Well derr - really at this point, is there any doubt that Hollywood is racist?

Evidently you've not heard about the in-development BLAKIRA, being directed by Mario Van Peebles.

Followed closely by his passion-piece epic The Blorty Bleven Ronin.
