I have an obsession with New York. Specifically New York of the 1970's. In particular 42nd Street. I was born in 78, have never stepped foot in New York but, for some reason, everything I've read about that place and time sings to me. I don't know why?The grindhouses, porn theaters, hookers, drugs, CBGB's, Studio 54, Plato's Retreat and Screw Magazine. It was New York at its fucking peak before it became Disney's version of Blade Runner.
Two of my favorite books about that era are Josh Alan Friedman Tales of Times Square and Bill Landis/Michelle Clifford's Sleazoid Express. Jeremiah's Vanishing New York is a fantastic site dedicated to all of those bit's and piece's of Old New York that are still in existence, about to be lost and long gone. Here's the link....http://vanishingnewyork.blogspot.com/ Another great website is Cinema Treasures, http://cinematreasures.org/, a database of virtually every theater in existence, closed down or demolished.
