So dumb.  They have Waltz (as the Cardinal) practicing his swordplay with much gusto in the middle of the film.  

 

He never wields another sword again.

 

It's absolutely stupid.  Why cast Waltz in the role when he barely gets to do anything other than engage in simplistic backstabbing politics? 

 

The way the film ends, Anderson was clearly aiming to lead this into a sequel.  The balls on this guy...

It's simplistic casting at it's finest. Waltz was an antagonist in Inglourious Basterds so why think outside the box with this movie's casting?
