FRANCHISE ME: LEPRECHAUN: BACK 2 THA HOOD

The franchise finally runs out of steam, and Josh assesses the whole damn thing.

Been re-reading these.  Good stuff.  I guess I was mixing the first and second movies when I thought it was Aniston during the fan blade kill.  Dumb on recollection.

And has nobody suggested Warlock?

WARLOCK has been suggested. But there are only three of those films. Not as much fun.

Don't forget the comic book series and video game.

Then how about the franchises of Steve Miner?  You can do the Warlock, House AND Lake Placid series.

Including comic books, video games, and TV spin-offs in this series is not gonna happen.

Though I have a somewhat unorthodox franchise planned for the future, a collective Miner film series doesn't really follow any definition of "franchise" unfortunately.

My vote goes for Tremors just so we can discuss Fred Ward who is one of the key connecters whenever I play six degrees of Kevin Bacon.

All of these are well done, and you made me wax nostalgic over Leprechaun 3 surprising me with being good.

I actually have a suggestion that may fit within this criteria: Witchcraft.

I've only watched one of them, and obviously it wasn't good or else I'd remember any sort of detail about it. It would be interesting to vicariously experience these movies with this feature because I will never, EVER make an attempt to see this set of movies.

There's 13 movies so it might come across as too punishing. and I totally wouldn't begrudge you saying "nuh uh".

Tremors for sure. There may only be four of them, but they are of higher quality than many of the entries of franchises suggested. I don't want to see you go insane trying to get through all the Children of the Corns or Puppet Masters. Although some of the stupid moments of the Wishmaster series would be fun to review.

Tremors and Critters are good choices, the only thing is that they really don't go off the rails too much (ok ass blasters not withstanding)

I'm a Chucky fan, so I'll vote Child's Play. Otherwise, Tremors is a pretty sweet choice.

I'd be happy with any of the previous suggestions. However, there are comedic franchises: Revenge of the Nerds (1 thru 4), Meatballs (ditto) and Police Academy. However, I don't know if the talents of Michael Winslow are enough to make someone watch all seven parts of the PA franchise.

Well if we are breaking away from horror then I suggest the Billy Jack series. Prepare to be ashamed to be liberal.

As for horror, The Puppet Master series would be PERFECT. Although you might go mad because there are 10 of them.

I'd vote for Critters. Hellraiser could be great. Maybe do these when 9 is released on DVD or VOD. Can't be long til that happens. Also: The six The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies.

edit to add: loved these, more!

My problem with WITCHCRAFT isn't that there are 13 films. As "Franchise Me" is an on-going series, there isn't really going to be a huge difference for me between watching 13 of series A, versus 6 of series B followed by 7 of series C. But WITCHCRAFT's biggest drawback I think is that from what I can tell they are barely movies; just softcore porn with filler plots. I'd fear that would wind up making a really monotonous and boring read after two or three such installments - at which point the length of the series would indeed be problematic. If someone can tell me that a decent percentage of the installments actually offer enough substance to make them worth while, I would certainly consider the series.

And JPL, POLICE ACADEMY was actually one of the handful franchise I planned to do when I first conceived this column. I'll add that to the vote next time!

Candyman?

I'm going to throw my vote in for Puppet Master, because it tries to maintain a weird sense of continuity for a few films.

Josh, It's been forever since I saw them but I can't remember many redeeming moments in the Witchcraft movies. I don't think it would be much fun for you. I'm pretty sure the later entries didn't even include witchcraft in the plots.

I put forward the Trancers franchise as a candidate.

I think I tried to watch the Leprechaun 1 & got bored, but after reading these great articles, I feel like I should at least give 3 & 4 a try.

Whichever series of movies you choose to write about, do it asap.

If not Trancers, Scanners? I haven't yet learned how they moved from Scanners to Scanner Cop.

I'm going to use this piece of bandwidth to say that I wished there were more Maniac Cop movies.

Voting seems to have tapered off, so I think it is safe to say that Team TREMORS won the day.

After reading this series I'm probably going to rent these movies.

God help me
