The Daily Plant hires the cutest redhead in the movies

Perfect.

Better than perfect.

I'll always love her for being Princess Giselle, and I'm all for this casting, but I can see some folks (teen boys) whining that she's not "hot" enough.  I think the woman is beautiful, and Lois Lane should be more than tits.

Adams doesnt really need to do a movie like this, so im hoping that the script was the reason she accepted the role.

Amy Adams is gorgeous. I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.

Also, true story: Amy played a villain-of-the-week in season one of SMALLVILLE. So, you know, this Superman stuff is old hat to her.

Elisabeth Rappe, It makes perfect sense for...The Daily Planet's star reporter, to be older than, Superman!  I like the concept of Clark Kent the talented but fairly naive guy would team up with a veteran to show Clark how to be a...SUPER Reporter!

Lovely choice.

I like continuing the Margot Kidder  tradition of an older Lois to Clark being the new guy at the Daily Planet.

I'd give her a jump.

Yes, it's truly awful casting. If you're retarded.

She's shown in her past work she can play all the ranges required to pull off Lois. It's just as complex a role as Superman/Clark Kent. Whoever actually made this casting decision deserves both a big raise and a cookie.

I think this will work as well.

Adams was in Cruel Intentions 2: Manchester Prep as well. Nice lesbian shower scene there if i recall correctly.

Yep, and Kidder did it well.

Yeah, age difference schmage difference.

Adams is beyond reproach -- bright, funny, sweet, charming. If Lois is covering a story in Afghanistan, she's going to be playing cards with the troops rather than primping her hair in an air-conditioned tent. Adams exudes that kind of gal in spades.

I think her casting also says a lot about the production's confidence in Cavill's maturity. On The Tudors, his character's age outpaced his own over the course of the series, and he always carried himself with grace and maturity beyond his years. I think he'd seem far too mature beside a 22-year-old Lois.

Adams is such a solid choice, and a welcome one, especially since she's on such a different level than any of the actresses previously rumored. This is seriously awesome.

Pleasantly surprised by this choice - I thought she turned in fantastic work in Doubt as the idealistic nun. Still, it's Snyder so I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

What, Gugino was busy?

Seriously, Adams was awesome in The Fighter. Dis chick is da goods.

Fine choise if you ask me. Plus I have a thing for Red heads so I hope she keeps the colour.

Perfect. Just perfect casting.

I'm pleasantly surprised they got Adams. Doesn't make a difference about the hair color. She's got the spunk to play Lois. That's the important thing.

Now all Warner Brothers has to do is get Viggo Mortensen as Zod and we can get this party started.

Well she's certainly a step up from Kate Bosworth.

Hahaha im sure.
This sounds all good to me though. Best casting news for this film so far. Much better than the pointless a-list casting of Supe's parents for sure.

I remember thinking that while Bosworth wasn't good, she wasn't quite as bad as I assumed she'd be. She was definitely too young for the part. On the list of problems with SUPERMAN RETURNS, Bosworth doesn't make the top five. (She might make six through ten.)

Still, Amy Adams will bury her in 30 seconds or less. Obviously.

This is great. Really, really great.

I'll take it. Great choice. Inspired, actually.

I strongly disagree that Bosworth wasn't one of the main problems with Returns she brought nothing to that movie.

Adams is a nice choice.

Zac Chase, Problems with...Superman Returns?

1) The Aborted trip for...Krypton, turned out to be real, Kryptonite as alot of $$$ were spent for a scene not even in the film.

2) Kate Bosworth, Worst...Lois ever!

3) Superson!

4) Super Stalker Kal El

5) A...DePowered Kal El, doesn't punch Luthor in the face, and cart his gang off to jail!

One final note...To Me, Parker Posey, should have been...Lois Lane!

Amy Adams, is not only...Perfectly Cast, she is the right age for Lois!  I have liked her ever since...Catch Me If You Can!

Wasn't that little girl Lois on the train that sees Clark running by during the Smallville sequence in Superman: The Motion Picture? Not to nitpick, because Lois definitely came across as mature (she smoked! And couldn't spell!).

I say adapt Geoff John's "Last Son" storyline without the son of Zod. That way you get Zod, Luthor, Parasite, Bizarro and Metallo.

Bartleby_Scriven,  That was, Lois.  Her mother even called her by name, telling her daughter she had a vivid imagination.

Now that you brought up...Superman The Movie, I think it is a shame that...Superman The ABC cut, has never been released.  Sure another, 7 minutes were added, but I love the ending where, Luthor Drops, Miss Tessmacher into a pit, only to have Superman save her, as she gives a retort to Lex after her rescue.  That is the...Superman The Movie I saw.  I missed Superman in theaters because my mom was fearful, my sister would jump out of the window imitating Superman, just like another child did.  I remember the news reporting such an event.  Ok, I am now off my...Tangent!

I actually agree with this. Bosworth and Posey swapping roles would've made a world of difference.

But never mind that. Adams is perfect.

Justin Clark, Amy Adams would be...Perfect in anything or...Nothing, as well.  Maybe she could be in the...ADAMS Family, next!

This is a perfect choice. But with the red hair she looks closer to Lana Lang then Lois Lane.

Damnit, casting people, stop making me interested in this movie.

John Byrne's Post-Crisis Lois had red hair up until at least "The Death and Return of Superman" storyline. I'm pretty sure her hair was returned to black to match Teri Hatcher on Lois and Clark.

Oh I know. But the most iconic version of Lois has black hair. I doubt the movie is being made expecting the audience to have read the Death of Superman. They should give this Superman a mullet too to have it really go full early 90s.

When did the ridiculous geek-ultimatum-checklist for Superman move on to "must punch someone, ANYONE, IN. THE. FACE!"

I've heard that all over the last week, not least of which in one of those Collider interviews with Zack Snyder. Are you a fan of good filmmaking/storytelling, or do you just want some dumbass checklist ticked off?

You're a bit late, sir. That drum's been beating since credits rolled on Superman Returns. And it's fucking pathetic.

I think the fact that there was zero super punching in Superman Returns created the crusade for Superman to punch something, anything. Super lifting large objects just isn't a worthy substitute.

See, I never even noticed that he didn't "punch" anything in Superman Returns. And yes, in the interest of full disclosure I AM in that wicked and small minority that really loves Superman Returns.

Coffee and donuts are in the back. The confessionals start at 7. Meetings are on the 15th and 30th every month. Thanks, and welcome.

I like Superman Returns. I think people are kind of frustrated that a hero with powers as flexible as Superman's was essentially reduced to just lifting progressively heavier objects. X2 kind of showed that Singer had an eye for using super-powers in interesting ways and then Superman was just some invincible, strong man. The thing is that we've seen Superman as the vaguely passive defender of the Earth in two films now, the Original and Returns, and I'm assuming that people just want to see something different. I mean this a character where over the course of five movies he's only actually been physically challenged twice (three times if you count the shivving in Returns).

Essentially we've rarely seen Superman actually challenged and I think people are interested in how a full on, drag out, fight between two super-powered people would work.

I'd like to think that Adams doesn't need to do this, but security is security, especially as she's not a twenty-something anymore. I love this choice, as I love the cast so far, but it is Snyder, and if the script isn't quite there, he's not the guy that can make it work. However, this isn't the cast of Sucker Punch, these people are real actors, most all of them with serious work under their belt, so let's hope that makes this thing come alive. Seriously though, Amy Adams. Fuck yeah.

I, too, like SUPERMAN RETURNS,

SUCKER PUNCH bellyflopping might be the thing this film needs - Snyder's gonna have to reign his worser tendencies in and lean on his positive attributes that much more. I have hope.

And let me say that for all my love for Superman Returns, I "get" the complaints people level at it. I guess I just happen to find other aspects of Superman interesting other than his physical prowess. I'm also a huge mark for the Donner film(s) and was actually giddy when I heard Singer was going to ape that because I thought it fit Singer's sensibilities. But I wouldn't have complained with more physical action from him, that's for sure, and in that regard I'm interested to see what Snyder can bring to it.

I just meant the very specific "must punch in face" chorus that I've noticed swelling. Not "fight more people!" or "we need Metallo so I can see Superman dispatching robuts," but "I need to see him Super-punch someone, anyone, IN THE FACE."

I believe he already anticipated that, which is why he's been talking up making a more "realistic" Superman film. I've not seen his Dawn of the Dead remake, can anyone who has verify what I assume to be true, that that film is the least stylized effort on his CV?

I only saw it once but yeah, I don't recall any of the stylistic flourishes that he's now known for. Surely some of them were there though.

But is most iconic necessary? Val Kilmer and Daniel Craig were both dirty blondes as Bruce Wayne and James Bond, and yet they both worked (to differing degrees). Superman Returns dealt with the iconography, attempting to grapple with the literal and existential need for Superman (for both the people of Metropolis, and the audience). This new movie shouldn't be afraid to mix things up a bit. Lose the red underwear, have a black Jimmy Olsen, but maintain the spirit of the source material.

DAWN '04 is easily his most restrained film, and coincidentally* the one I can revisit the most without getting sidetracked by irritable moments. There's a genuinely great action director at work in DAWN, before he let his flourishes and attempts at thematic resonance overpower him.

*not coincidental at all
