GARY OLDMAN THINKS THE DARK KNIGHT RISES SCRIPT IS GREAT, REALLY GREAT

It's a great, really great story. The script is really great. Very great.

Wasn't Oldman kind of reticent to return even for THE DARK KNIGHT? The fact  that he's even onboard seems like a tacit endorsement.

Wasn't that because of his limited screentime in Begins?  With more of a role in TDK, I can see why he'd be happier now if that was his concern.

The fact that he's on board seems like the terms of his contract, which is what it is. He tried to get out of TDK but his lawyers advised him otherwise. Turned out well I think, as he certainly moved on from being Basil Exposition and made an invaluable contribution to the success of the sequel.

But did he say if it was as good as the script for Tiptoes?

Hey, don't knock Tiptoes, it had 'command performances'.

"How great is the script for your next huge, nay, titanic franchise film Gary Oldman?"
"It's shit actually."

I have every confidense Rises will be great but did anyone expect Oldman to say anything else?

Right, especially since he's known to take paycheck jobs. Since I WANT to be optomistic about this -and finding it difficult for weird reasons- I'm going to convince myself that this is going to be a good sign.

And man, Oldman and Hardy sure are getting to know one another, huh?

The fact that it's being treated as news is very weird to me. The one thing he intimated that I found interesting is that he's going to be sharing scenes with Hardy in the film. I very much want to see what that's all about.

And the fan fic authors are having a field day.

Oh look, an actor said his movie is great at a press thing! It gets me excited (but he's also a very good actor) so mission accomplished.

To be fair, he does feel genuinely excited about what he's read and knows. You really get the feeling he'd love to burst forth with more details but he can't. I don't get the feeling it's the usual "oh yeah, this'll be great, so and so's great," etc.

With all of the heavy, heavy scrutiny, I find myself involuntarily prefiguring what the backlash will be like. The backlash on TDK never really got that loud, but this...? The expectations on this thing are nigh obscene.

A legion of Anne Hathaway clones could be lined up at theaters around the country to perform oral on everyone who requests it during the film, and there will be a raucous portion of them that boycotts the film based solely on lack of finger up the ass.

In short: Fuck the internet far as this movie goes.

He should give his lawyer a bonus if that's true. Gordon always seemed a slightly weird choice for someone as colourful as Oldman, but the exposure seems to have done his character actor career good. No idea why but for the longest time Batman and Harry Potter seemed to be the only things keeping him on the radar.

Just quoting this because I like not being the only one who thought this.

Indeed. What does Bane want with Gordon? I can't recall if they had any genuine interaction in the comics. The fact that they come face to face often in this film suggests that their worlds collide, which could suggest a very wide score. Elements of Knightfall? Escaped villains? The return of Mr. Zsasz and Scarecrow? Hmm? Hmmm?

I respectfully disagree. Even here. It was bad. People were mocked soundly for seeing it multiple times (and don't think I didn't notice people seeing SCOTT PILGRIM four+ fucking times in the theater went by with nary a goddamn eyelash batted), let alone going after the film.

But hell, I can't wait for TDKR and I'm already sick of the pre-hype hype!

Wasn't the mocking towards those who saw the movie multiple times in one weekend?  And I recall that primarily coming from Devin.  But maybe I'm wearing some badass rose-colored shades...

I saw both TDK and Scott Pilgrim in theaters 5 times... (spread out over several weeks!)

I went to a showing of North by Northwest where I overheard a guy in the theater proudly claiming that he saw SP in theaters 30-something times.  Considering the fact that the film couldn't have been in theaters that long (psst!  it was a flop!), he couldn't have spread out his viewings by that much.  I love rewatching films in theaters, but even I have my limits...

Godammit... I keep mixing up the EDIT and QUOTE button.

It wasn't just Devin. Never mind. Just move along. This is a sore point for me, and I need to just let it go.

I saw Dark Knight six times in the theatre. Twice in IMAX.

Four of those times were in a free theatre that was on base while I was stationed in Korea. Since I wanted to save money, and I'm really geeky about all things Batman, I didn't feel the least bit regretful going to see it repeatedly. The second time at IMAX was because I had shitty seats the first time around. Korean theatres have this weird assigned seating policy that cramped my style(and all the seats ended up being full. Completely). Each successive time I went to see it, the more I was loving it.

Then I bought it on DVD, and watched in a double feature after seeing Heat. That ended up being a really interesting mistake because TDK looked absolutely stupid when you follow it up with Heat. Like, really, REALLY stupid.

However, I've come back around to liking it again after seeing this behind the scenes picture of Heath Ledger hanging upside down in front of a green screen. For some reason, it never entered my mind that the background was digital when Joker was finally captured.

Anyway, back to Oldman and TDKR; I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I bet that after all the dust settles, and every story is tied up, Batman and Gordon are going to exchange a piece of dialogue that will be something like this:

Batman: "How can I ever thank you?"

Gordon: "You'll never have to."

(Both Nolan's end with that dialogue, just flipped. Although TDK just doesn't make a big moment out of it like Batman Begins did).

The bat... and the man.  Heheheh

Yeah! That signature might be more prophetic than we think.

Just imagine this. The Dark Knight Rises is winding down after living up to everyone's expectations. Then, after some suitably bromantic dialog, Bruce and Gordon start making out like drunk coeds on Spring Break. Really going for it. Heavy mustache action.

It's going to be The Rite Of Spring all over again. If we're lucky, a couple of riots may even break out.

It is funny that Bruce Wayne accepted a random circus kid (Dick Grayson), a hobo (Jason Todd), and a stalker (Tim Drake) into his crusade as his closest confidants, but every time a female comes along (Barbara Gordon, Helena Bertinelli, Stephanie Brown) he gives them a hard time or doesn't accept them altogether. Along with his secret nightly rendezvouses with Gordon, one might think he prefers men to women...

Bruce Wayne Gacy. Now THERE'S a pitch.

Gordon: Boy, these women made an even bigger mess than the Joker, Batman.

Batman: Call me BRUCE, goddamn you. *pant* *pant* Bruce... Wayne.

Gordon: ?! Hey! Don't.... just don't. I don't want to...

Batman: No I want you to know. I NEED YOU to know. I can't keep hiding everything, it's... it's too much. I hide SO much.

Gordon: *cradles Batman as he begins to sob* Shhh, shhh, shhh, shhh. It's ok, Bats. It's ok.

Batman: And you're right, these women I, I can't keep doing this. They're sucking the life out of me. And maybe part of me deserves to be sucked like that it's just... not like this. Not by THEM.

Gordon: I think I understand... Bruce.

GORDON spits on his finger as we pan down to... well, I don't need to go any further with this charade.

Well, a piece of news just hit and directly from the mouth of Jeff Robinov. Not a huge surprise, seems like the most logical course of action, really. I'm totally behind it.

Huh? Are you refering to the franchise reinventing itself after this one?

I figure anything that could possibly be an article, I'd rather a CHUD staffer post it proper.

Hey, Batman already got it up the pooper from Obi-Wan, it's only fair that Sirius Black gets a taste, too.
