Et tu Donald Trump?

From watching "The Apprentice", Donald Trump always seemed to me to be the old school Wall Street Republican.   In other words, he's all about Friedman school economics but is basically a normal guy who doesn't get into the social issues.   Much like Arnold Schwartzeneggar.   Well, imagine my surprise when he outs himself as a birther....

Do I think "The Donald" really believes that Obama isn't a natural born citizen?  Of course not.   He gave himself plenty of room to walk the statement back if he needs to but I'm still surprised that he even wants to go there.   The real question is: is he serious about a run for the presidency and trying to build "street cred" with the Tea Party or is he just shilling for his show?   Opinions?

This "no one seems to remember" horseshit is like, seriously, X-Files conspiracy theory level bullshit. I mean... just fucking astounding that's their big "proof."

This is right up there with this "no American soldier should serve under a foreign command" bullshit the retardlicans have been peddling for days.  They're practically bragging about their lack of knowledge about our history.

Ultimately, no matter what lurid and ignorant garbage comes from folks like Trump (never mind Barbour, Bachmann or Huckabee et al) the responsibility lies with the presumably educated voters who cast their lots with these troubling folks.

(perhaps it's fitting that my winamp just hit "Medical Examination" from THE RUNNING MAN as I type this!)

Even if he announces a run, it's not because he expects to win but because it's good marketing.  It's the same with half the potential Republican candidates (Palin, Bachmann).  It helps these people sell books and speaking engagements, and as long as they're campaiging on donations it's free publicity.

I think what's funny is that every Republican to the person is afraid to alienate the Birthers with a flat out acknowlegement that Obama is a natural born citizen.   They always qualify it with "I have no reason to think he isn't." or "He says he's one and that's good enough for me.".    Are the "Birthers" such a significant part of the Republican base that turning them off is as bad as turning off the Religious Right?   If so, Obama should be able to win the next election quite handidly if the GOP base if full of fringe elements.

Obama will win easily.  All he needs to do is announce that Hillary will be his VP.  Game over.  I know she's said she wants no part of being VP, but that could just be deflection so that the shakeup doesn't prove a distraction so early in the game.
