There's nothing new under the sun. But under the ground...

Great summation of the flick and I couldn't agree more. Tremors NEVER gets old.

Good stuff, Josh. This will make for a great series. Glad you touched on the chemistry between the leads and various supporting players --it's what makes it special, and is what's lacking in the sequel(s). I'm hardpressed to think of a B with a more effective ensemble.

(For the record, my favorite 'should've been star-making Fred Ward performance' is as Gus Grissom in THE RIGHT STUFF)

Burt Gummer is a man among men! Looking forward to this new franchise entry in the column.

I must have seen Tremors at least a dozen times. Still holds up well after every viewing.

Especially love the Pole Vaulting scene.

"SHIT!!!"

Will we be reviewing the TV Series later?

Oh my, fabulous. This movie never gets old, in fact, I think it might work better now than it did back in the early 90s when I first saw it. Saw it with Alex Riviello and a group of nerds a few years back and man, still fun. I liked how they did the Jaws effect; they never really showed the monster until well into the movie during the shoot-out scene which still to this day is one of those 'haha fuck yeah!' moments.

It's also one of the few horror movies where I feel sad when someone dies, even Edgar (the guy in the tire who barely see any of) because everyone feels like a real person first and body count "waiting to be killed" character second.

Now I have to go watch Tremors. I had shit to do tonight.

I hadn't been planning to do any of the TV series, because it's not on Netflix, but I just discovered it's on Hulu.com. So I may at least do the pilot.

Love this movie,It's one of the few  horror movies I enjoy.   This was also my introduction to Kevin Bacon and I had hoped for big things from him. Sadly he never topped the greatness he achieved by being part of this flick.

Great article Josh! Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on this series.

My Dad took me to see this on opening day in theaters and we saw it again a couple of weeks afterwards. Despite the fact that it's a glorious movie that I still watch to this day, it holds a special place in my heart as it's the last movie he and I saw together before he moved out and my parents got divorced.

I'd still like to know what is up with the creature on the poster looking nothing like those in the film.  I've always wondered that.

Huh. You know you're right! I never even realized that!

I've always thought the teenager should have eaten too. I do like when he was screaming at Burt for giving him an unloaded gun. Then Burt says,"Made you run fast."

What I like about Tremors is how they clearly show how adaptive the Graboids are.

Of course, they are a lot dumber in the sequels. Especially in Tremors 2.

That's a bit like complaining about the shark on the poster for JAWS not looking like the shark in the movie. It's advertising exaggerated for effect.

This was a big favorite of my family's as I was growing up.  We resided completely in the PG-13 realm, so this was one of my first forays into "scary movie" territory.  It's funny to me that Josh didn't recognize Reba McEntire.  She was a big deal around these parts back then.  And I think she did a great job with the role.  ("I know, I know...  He thinks he knows everything.")

Anyway, great article.  I saw the first sequel and was distressed by the jump to CGI effects and the...  I don't know... evolutionary jumps the graboids took.  I never checked out the subsequent films, and I don't even remember hearing about the television show.  I don't know how that slipped past me.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the follow up articles.  I got a kick out of reading all the Leprechaun pieces, despite never seeing any of the movies (or planning to.)

So, I'm the only guy that will admit to liking the sequel?  I thought it was good in not being a simple retread as well as showing that the characters from the first movie learned from their experience and were able to apply that knowledge to dealing with the graboids again.

It was fun.

I liked the sequel. Certainly not as good as the first one, but it has enough solid moments to qualify as "good."

The sequal aint perfect but it was a damn fine attempt at doing something different with the concept.

Had to search for the Tremors 2 review. For some reason a thread wasn't made for it.

There is a thread. Just got buried.

Great article, great flick.  Also, this was the last of the epic Victor Wong trilogy.

Tremors 2 is pretty solid - would've been great if Bacon was brought back instead of that charmless dude.
