SCREAM 4 Pre-release.....

This is coming out in 13 days and I'm feeling absolutely ZERO buzz on this flick on teh interwebz apart from some lukewarm chatter at Fangoria and Rue-Morgue. Does anyone give a shit about this? I've always felt that Scream was hugely overrated, the sequel passable and part 3 handy if there's no asswipe in the shitter. This is little more then a cash grab for everyone involved since their careers have went nowhere since this series ended over a decade ago. Kevin Williamson is returning for a paycheck after bailing on Part 3, written by fucking useless script monkey Ehren Kruger, while Craven, Campbell, Cox and Arquette were probably looking forward to making this about as much as going on a Bataan Death March. There's the usual assortment of disposable meatpuppets and flavor of the month z-list personalities who no one will give two fucks about come May when Thor launches the summer movie slaughterhouse of 2011.

Any takers on how much this will suck?

I liked it.

The first positive word I've read on the movie! This gives me a glimmer of hope. After being mystified throughout the entirety of MY SOUL TO TAKE, my expectations are not very high.

Oh God, yeah.  Post-My Soul to Take, I thought Scream 4 had a chance of being more terrible than Cursed.  It was a nice surprise.

I'll probably see this. My first Neve Campbell film in a long while.

I'm still a big fan of the first one, the second is just a shade below, and the third one sucks. Scream Three does have two good scenes. The Carrie Fisher cameo and the dream sequence. Anyone know what the plot of part 3 would have been if Williamson's script had been used? I know that a new story was written because of the Columbine.

I'm 90 percent sure I see the new one. For it to be good, at least one of the three original characters has to die. That will keep the movie from becoming predictable.

The dream sequence in Scream 3 sucks, and I say that as someone who likes Scream 3 (more than 2, anyway).  All that's known about Williamson's outline was that it went back to Woodsboro High, which makes me think Scream 4 could very well be based on the original concept for 3.

I also feel like there's no buzz on this, and it stinks of desperation. But apparently the tracking is huge? Oh Weinstein brothers, you crazy bastards.

There's all sorts of buzz around me.  And yeah, it's tracking in the 50s for opening weekend.

Are you sure that's not just your personal hygiene?

Fans of the first film can watch a two hour doc on the making of it on the Biography channel this Wednesday. Produced by the fella who did that 4 hour Elm Street doc. Should be the goods.

Thanks for the info. I will be setting the DVR for it.

I went to the premiere of The Inside Story tonight.  It's quite good.

Anything new/worthwhile in it that hasn't already been covered by the various DVD special features (and that 4th disc on the box set)?

It goes into why Scream's DP was fired a week before shooting was finished.  I'd always wondered about that.

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

What a snoozer! What about that renactment of Kevin Williamson getting the idea for the movie while watching TV. WHAT IN THE HELL?

Liked hearing Craven talk about it. But would have been nice to see a little more depth. And maybe some more faces. For example, an interview with Barrymore or Schrieber. At least they talked to W. Earl Brown!

I wish it was like the Elm Street doc where each movie was focused on. Maybe there's a follow up in the future!

I was bummed by how Rose McGowan looked. She doesn't have those big bright eyes any more. Didn't she get a bad face lift?

Car accident, right? Still looked pretty.

Am interested in seeing the new one, somehow.

I have heard almost nothing about this. Buzz is nowhere to be seen or heard however I will keep my ears open because i'm curious if Craven has another one in him.

I have doubts Williamson can rise to the occasion with the script.

I didn't know that Rose was in a car accident.

Williamson writing the script gives me hope. Its possible that one of the reasons 3 was weak was because he didn't write it.

3 is so bad. It played last night, and I caught the ending. Woof. Parker Posey is a lot of fun in it, but yikes. But, right - Williamson didn't write it. Aside from the first, they've never been able to come up with a good killer(s). Hey, maybe it'll be someone NEW that hates Sid's mom!

Scream 4 has the best killer/set of killers since the first.  It certainly plays the fairest, and you can tell it wasn't some last minute "okay, you get to take the mask off tomorrow when we shoot the ending!" decision.

Is it at least better than Scream 3, and how does it compare to the second?

I've seen it twice now, and feel confident in saying I like it better than both.  It's just fun.

Not a high bar to clear, but as far as I can remember it's the best slasher in at least a decade, and, more impressively, second-best of the series, IMO. Pre-title sequence is worth the price of admission alone, and I'm pleased to say that both a) the returning cast are not marginalized here and b) the film stays true to the spirit and tone of the original films, despite being greenlit under the likely assumption that this was some sort of "21st century update" or whatever. If this had been Scream 3, I'd say that's about as good as you can hope for a slasher movie trilogy to get.

Not seen BEHIND THE MASK, eh?

I don't understand the love for Behind the Mask. It's a less-disturbing, more smug version of Man Bites Dog.

It's a slasher film. It's completely different in its intent to MAN BITES DOG.

I disagree. The intent is "the day to day life of a killer" and eventually whether or not the people following this guy are complicit in the killer's actions. Beyond that, I didn't find Behind the Mask particularly funny or creepy, either, but...I dunno, it's not like I don't hear it brought up quite often, maybe I need to give it a second chance.

I'm going to get to see this Thursday of next week. I'm looking forward to it...God help me, I'm looking forward to it.

I'm a big fan of the Screams, warts and all. And I'll never forgive my buddy's girlfriend who, while we were 3/4 of the way through watching the first one (rented) spoiled who the killers were. I felt like I never really got to fully experience the fun of it all since the next two were weaker.

Now, if only I can get someone to tag along with me, as I get a resounding "NO!" from everyone I ask.

Caught it last night. It was okay. Had some good moments but I found it to be mostly okay, which is what I expected going in to a 4th installment. I didn't really buy the whole killer scenario due to what I felt to be weak casting (which was only made more apparent as their diatribes went on longer and longer) but it is what it is. The opening, like the other 3, was still very strong.

Of all the reviews I've read say the same thing. Great opening, but an average movie. The money I save not seeing it in the theater can be put towards buying the first one on blu ray. I can wait 6 months till see Scream 4 on DVD.
