THELMA AND LOUISE 1991

Why do people have think that Thelma and Louise is some sort of feminist classic when it is a flaming piece of fucking shit?

The main protagonists are two of the dumbest fucking characters in motion picture history for the reasons as follows....

1 - On their trip, Thelma gets wasted at a bar and put herself in the position of going into a parking lot with a stranger who then tries to rape her.

2 - Louise stops the rape and has a gun on the stranger, who then mouths off to her, at which point she proceeds to kill him. Not blast his cock off or shoot out his kneecaps but shoots him dead. Louise, by the way, is supposed to be the intelligent one.

3 - Now on the run, T & L decide that they are going to Mexico. But Louise doesn't want to go through Texas. Because apparently she was once raped in Texas. This is supposed to explain why she killed Thelma's would be rapist. However, considering that they are now on the run for a capital crime, you'd think that Louise would make an exception and drive through Texas and maybe steer clear of where she was raped. But NOOOOOO. She was raped in Texas and is determined to go to Mexico without going through the largest state in the nation with the largest percentage of land connected to Mexico. This is just soo fucking stupid on soo many levels. Really, you want to avoid an entire state because the spot you were raped in happens to be there? How about avoiding the entire fucking USA while you at it you fucking dipshit since that's the fucking country you were raped in you fucking moron!!!

4 - Thelma, deciding that life isn't exciting enough being on the run for murder, fucks Brad Pitt and leaves him alone with all of their money, only to return and discover that Pitt has, amazingly, taken off with all of their cash. I think the phrase "stupid bitch" is appropriate at this time to describe Thelma.

5 - I take that back, the phrase "RETARDED FUCKING CUNT" would be more apt to describe Thelma as she robs a liquor store because their money has now been stolen by her toyboy with only the sperm left in her fuckhole as collateral.

6 - Now cornered by the pigs, T&L decide to kill themselves and drive off a cliff. The movie's final shot is a freeze frame of the car, in mid-air, which is supposed to represent some sort of triumph for our two cerebrally impaired protagonists and was also a mistake on Director Ridley Scott's part considering that he wouldn't have been able to make a sequel with the girls in a maximum security women's prison with lots of lesbian sex and nude women having knife fights in the shower as the Bulldyke Prison Warden (played by Shannon Tweed) masturbates with a nightstick and licks her lips over the gladiatorial combat between the glistening hardbodies of the street meat she has complete and total domination over. Where was I? Oh yeah, instead of the freeze frame, we should have seen the car crash and explode while the credits run over the pigs standing around the flaming wreckage and pissing on it as they comment over how good it is to have a cock as the last shot shows Gloria Steinem and Andrea Dworkin's heads explode. The end.

Given all that I have wrote about Thelma and Louise, can anyone explain to me why this movie was as critically acclaimed and considered a feminist classic when the two main protagonists act like fucking dingbats and compound their problems with each and every decision they make all the while exemplifying the worst aspects of male behavior?

Or is it supposed to show just what irrational, illogical, unreasonable and mindless creatures women are, in which case it is the most accurate depiction of women in the history of film!?

I know we're not taking a vote, but maybe eventually you will take a hint when enough people say that they wish you would stop posting here forever and ever and ever.

at least he is trying to liven things up. You have to appreciate a good coherant troll. The question is can any of you counter his arguments?

It's unfortunate that this is the only thread that exists for this film, but so it goes.

This is a slice of early '90s pie right here. Harvey Keitel and Michael Madsen give it a feel of a Tarantino film, while Ridley Scott films more like his brother with everything looking smokey and hazy (especially those iconic shots of light shining through barely parted blinds). Starts off with a bang (the attempted rape and shooting happened quicker than I suspected) then goes through a bit of a lull, only to become a series of vignettes in which Thelma & Louise seem to be confronted by sexist stereotypes...and then obliterate them. I especially love the state trooper that breaks down and starts crying.

Brad Pitt is a nice bit of country sleeze. Hot sex scene. Geena Davis, why did you do that pirate film and then become president?

Everyone on display is giving their A-game. I especially like how the "hand" keeps shifting between Thelma & Louise: at the beginning Louise is obviously the dominant personality in the relationship, only for Thelma to take control later (after a series of screw-ups due to her naivete).

Hans Zimmer's score is nicely underplayed here, with a twang that reminded me of Once Upon a Time in the West (and, oddly enough, parts of At World's End).

I wish the ending hadn't been spoiled for me by cultural saturation years ago. It still packs a punch, although I liked the extended ending better and agree with Roger Ebert that the switch to flashbacks to earlier in the film dull the impact (negatively).

As far as shooting to kill the rapist, I don't think it was premeditated. It was a psychological reaction that became a physical reaction. The rapist telling her to suck his cock triggered something in her involving her rape in Texas.
