Sniper Elite was genuinely one of my favourite games on the Xbox. Kind of rough around the edges and mercilessly unfair at times, but there was a certain atmosphere and tension in the game that I’ve never seen in any other game. It was a game that forced you to think tactically, to be aware of your surroundings and it’s focus on pure sniping made it genuinely unique. There really wasn’t an option to run and gun and as such you found yourself growing increasingly anxious as your target or targets strolled in and out of your crosshair.

As such I’m kind of hoping that the sequel delivers, but Rebellion have taken a real nosedive in quality these last few months and I’m expecting this to be fairly rushed and fairly cheap.

I wish all the snipers from Call of Duty, Halo, Battlefield, etc. would go and play this instead of shooting me, but it would probably be way too much for them.

Won't happen. Snipers in multiplayer games tend to be snipers because they're trying to preserve a kill/death ratio. It's about being risk averse more than anything else, sniping in Sniper Elite is completely the opposite. You're routinely punished for fucking up shots and it has reasonably realistic physics.

Oh I figured, but I can always dream.

What does the game do to prevent multiplayer matches being nothing but everyone not moving for an entire match and no one getting shot? Does it have stuff like sun reflection off of people's scopes, etc? I'm piss poor at sniping in most of the games I mentioned(except Battlefield), but something like this where everyone is a sniper I might able to go for. I have a lot of patience with that sort of thing.

Well the original was single player only, if they added multiplayer to it I'd assume it would be like Halo's shotty snipers. It would be cool to play multiplayer with only rifles though, force people to be tactical. Or even have a co-op mode where one person spots, and one person shoots.

That co-op idea sounds ideal.

I think I'm thinking of a totally different game, as the one I remember reading about years ago was a multiplayer affair as well. Not sure how multi could work really unless it was a couple guys vs. 12 or something for each round, with human targets interspersed with NPCs kind of like Assassin's Creed Multiplayer.

Demo is up for the PS3 and 360.

Ass pipes.

Just played the demo. Not bad. I'm a sucker for a good stealth game so this is definitely up my alley. Dunno if I'd pay full price, but in a few months I'd think about picking it up I reckon.

The demo level is pretty linear with a dash of hidden weapon/ammo stashes, but man the sniping mechanics are great.

The X-ray bullet damage stuff is gruesome and excellent.

Yeah that was the clincher that made me realise I will eventually be thrashing this game at some point.

Been playing the demo for this for the past few days - it's only a short demo but damn if it isn't fun shooting nazis in the head and balls in xray slo-motion.

Stealth and picking nazis off from a long distance? Here's my cash.
