Gaming Headphones?

I've never really used a pair of headphones for gaming outside of the crappy $10 earbuds I sometimes plug in when I need to be quiet. For a while now I've been somewhat interested in picking up some sort of gaming headset, but the price has always kept me from pulling the trigger on a purchase. Any particular set was either great quality paired with a high price or affordable with poor reviews.  So I'd kind of given up on getting anything, at least for a while.

However, I was shopping around on Amazon today, and I found a pair of headphones (Sharkoon X-Tatic SX) that were on sale for a decent price and they had some really good reviews both on Amazon and elsewhere. So I decided to go ahead and buy them figuring that they'll be at least a slight step up from my current headset situation. Plus, they were cheap enough that I won't feel too bad if they end up being crap in the end.  I should be able to use them with my PC and 360, and from the way the inputs looked on product photos, I should be able to use the set with my PS3 and TV as well, minus the microphone. I can't wait to try them out once I get them, but in the meantime I am curious about the experiences others have had with headsets.

So, any of you guys use gaming headsets or a nice pair of headphones when you're gaming?

The pair of headphones I use for my PC gaming right now is embarrassingly expensive, but let me explain how I ended up there:

When I last upgraded my computer, I bought a decent pair of headphones with a mic for gaming.  I didn't shop around, I didn't read reviews, I just went to Best Buy and bought a $40 pair of headphones.  And they were okay.  I also did one thing that I've never done before or since, and it was the smartest investment I've ever made.  I bought the 3 year extended warranty.

Less than 12 months later my headphones were busted.  The headset itself cracked leaving two dangling ear pieces.  I brought it in to Best Buy who credited me with $40 to go grab some new headphones.  So I found a nice $70 pair, and now I'm only out $30!  Restarted my 3 year warranty, and way I went.

Over the course of 5 years my headphones broke 4 times.  I don't treat them badly, but most headphones just aren't built to last.  Sometimes it was something physical, sometimes they just would stop working properly.  Every single time I brought a pair back I bought a more expensive pair.  Technically I've paid full price for an expensive pair of headphones, but it's easy to validate when you're paying $30-$40 at a time.

Right now I'm sporting these little bits of canned sexiness.  They are insanely good, the 7.1 virtual sound has saved me so many times in FPS games I can't even tell you.  Actually being able to track people who are sneaking up behind you just by the sound almost feels like cheating, but I wouldn't go back.

My only available upgrades once these things die are Sennheisers.  I've only heard of how good they are, but 20 extra dollars gets me into their low end once these die.  I'm a few years and a few dead headphones from capping out at a $250 pair though.
