Breaking In

Did anyone watch this?  First episode was pretty funny I thought.  I am a big fan of Brett Harrison, so it automatically gets points.

Generally liked it, but it moved really really fast.  Probably due to being a half hour pilot.  Thought there'd be more "case" stuff, but I guess it's more of it a sitcom.

Feels like something carried on the shoulders of the performances, and hey, it's good that Michael Rosenbaum is working again.  If he's in it for more than an episode.

Think Leverage is better though.

In the years since the wonderful movie Sneakers came out, I've always been surprised that they never tried to put the concept on TV, so Breaking In scratches that small itch of seeing a really cool twist on the heist genre every week, but something like this is far too plot heavy to be a 22 minute sitcom. It really needs to be an hour long drama, like on USA, where we could see a really good heist every week and the comedy. More Psych and Leverage,  less The Office

And this show has made me realize, while I like Bret Harrison, he's a reliable actor but not a very good one possessing range. This is the third series where he's a talented slacker thrust into a situation that has him stressed and frazzled with a boss from Hell and lusts after a brunette co-worker.

Although one episode is hardly enough for me to agree that an hour is more appropriate, you are probably right.  However, broadcast TV is changing.  Networks do not want to commit to holding the attention of idiots for an hour.  I do not blame them one bit for giving this show a 22 minute format.  I would be fucking terrified to release any new show these days.  And far too many great shows have been canceled on me in the past few years, so I will take a rushed pilot to help ensure a quality show will follow.  My fingers are crossed that the pilot suffered immensely from being forced to tell a ton (yet nothing really happened) of set-up story in such a short time.  Maybe I am not allowed to enjoy Harrison's shows?

Heh, funny observation.  But, I wouldn't blame his range.  He is simply acting the role he was cast in.  Being typecast, doesn't always equate to a lack in talent.

I thought this was pretty great. I can't believe that Christian Slater made me laugh.

The first episode was OK enough. I'll keep watching. It doesn't hurt that Odette Yustman is in it, too. I love watching that woman so much.

Anyone keeping up with this? I think it has found its footing, and I am enjoying it.  It is still a tad self-aware like Scrubs, but I am finding plenty to enjoy.  The ratings are doing pretty well.

Really?  No one?  I am really liking this show now.  It isn't anything too new, but it is pretty funny.

Yeah, the past couple of episodes are a definite improvement. They remind me of why I used to like Slater.

I still watch it. You can tell they are having a lot of fun making it. It's a little rough around the edges, but it's good stuff. Hope it gets to continue.

The Goonies shit(How low can they pander?) turned me way off. Ugh.

But! But! Rosenbaum buying a Superman shirt!!!

Yeah, I've been enjoying it in a mild way, but I think I'm done after all the Goonies shit.  I'm tired of shows that claim to be "nerd" and just obviously look up a wiki of nerd shit and then cut past to a script.  Chuck is often guilty of the same thing.  It's so fucking lazy.  Just do something else, for Christ's sake.

Nah, Chuck is legit. Schwartz, Fedak and Levi are very nerdy in person and the references can often be clever. It's not like Big Bang Theory(Which I'm on record for liking, if not loving) where the guys are in a comic shop and the laugh track explodes in laughter at how nerdy that is. BBT often mocks, Chuck and Community embrace.

I'm as anti Goonies as anyone around here and I'll bet more than most but I'll give them a pass on it. What most bothers me is not dressing up Odette Yustman as Baroness. I know that it would be sexist and exploitative but I don't care.

Then maybe it's the network or something gets lost in translation.  There have been quite a few moments on Chuck that have that whole "nerds and Star Wars, right?  RIGHT?!"  But I will give you that there are probably just as many that do seem very sweet and funny and legit without pandering.  Actually, I think the few times they've done it on Leverage have been pretty knowledgeable without being annoying or pandering.

Having talked to John Rogers, he is very much a nerd. Interviewed him a couple years ago:  http://therapsheet.blogspot.com/2009/07/thieves-like-them.html

Well dammit. Canceled. Of course. I was just starting to get into it.  I figured it would last a bit considering it had fairly stable ratings...

Never had time to watch this, but do feel bad for Christian Slater. This is like the 3rd or 4th network show of his in the last few years that got cancelled. Poor Hard Harry.

Too bad, the nerd jokes were a bit in your face but I found the show generally entertaining.  It was an enjoyable way to kill 20 minutes.  I think Dutch ended up being the best part of the show.

Renewed!

Seriously?  I thought this show was dead.

Wow, surpised but happy. I definitely appreciated the original format and characters.

Yeah, this is awesome.  That show was definitely fun to watch.  I also really like Slater's character too.  He's got a real J. Peterman thing going on.  lol.

Slater's back! Anyone catch this?

I'm sure Matchstick did.

Disappointed that Dutch is gone (as well as the Josh character).  Just didn't quite feel the same without them.  I'll give it a few episodes to see if it gets better though.

Oh shit, why am I sexually attracted to Megan Mullaly? Out of every woman on this show? Why?

Is there something wrong with me?
