WALTER HILL HAS STALLONE’S HEADSHOT

Walter Hill to direct Sylvester Stallone. Yup, that's great news.

Hallelujah!!!

Walter Hill could die tomorrow and he would STILL be a legend for The Warriors and Streets of Fire.

I can get behind this. He is a really strong and solid director, and I think that if Stallone allows him to do his thing, then this could be a really good movie.

I would very much like this to come out now.

This is the best news i've heard in awhile.

Genuinely great news. Thumbs up.

Now the question is who will play the younger role?

Considering EXTREME PREJUDICE and THE EXPENDABLES are cut from the same machismo cloth, this looks like a match made in heaven.

I'm happy they're teaming up and all, but Stallone's got him working on the wrong movie. Hill, assuming he still gives a shit, could fix everything that was wrong about The Expendables in a sequel (and as much as I enjoyed the first movie, there was plenty wrong). Hard hitting action movie, bunch of tough guys in an ensemble cast? he's the stupidly obvious choice.

Come on Sly, I love ya but you'd be a fool to pass up this opportunity. And if you're worried about Hill not delivering on that whole "look at my awesome Expendables physique" thing, all you need to do is watch Undisputed for that shot that lovingly lingers on Ving's massive quivering backside as he walks away in the showers.

I know Walter Hill has awesomely spent his time away from movies developing Deadwood, but is anyone else a little suspicious of the time he's spent away from directing? Like, did something happen on the set of Undisputed? I find it hard to believe he just spent nine years swimming in Alien residuals.

Nice write up, Dre.

Most excited I've been over movie news in a while. Also thanks to the AICN article, I've been geeking out over what might have been with Sly starring THE DRIVER. Love movie we got, but that could've been pretty awesome.

<I think ANOTHER 48 HRS has aged into a semi-charming mess. I'd definitely rather watch it than RED HEAT>

Except that UNDISPUTED's action was (I hate to say it) poorly shot. Mostly obscured, through the cage. I could give it a second shot, but the action in the sequels left part 1 in the dust IMO. Can't dispute your opinion on certain shower scenes. ;)

And I'd also argue that THE EXPENDABLES' script was the weak link in that flick. John Milius should have had a pass!

Milius should have a pass at every script ever.

True. Hill isn't right for The Expendables. When is the last time he handled an ensemble picture?

Well I'm sure Stallone will be hanging around to make sure all the big action sequences have that Sly punch, no matter who directs the Expendables sequel. I'm just saying Hill is one director who could give some real meat and substance and believability to these "Men on a Mission", instead of the superficial gimmicky nonsense Stallone brought to the first movie whenever bad guys weren't going splat.

Forget Director Jail, If...Stallone still doesn't end up directing Expendables 2, maybe...John McTiernan could direct it!

Hill directed the superb television miniseries BROKEN TRAIL in 2006.

I was never a big fan of action films during the 80's. Some sure, but The Last Boy Scout's, Hudson Hawk's and Ricochet's never appealed to me. Maybe the amount of one-liners lessened the impact of any real danger. Maybe they were just too silly. But Walter Hill made a different type of action film. His were dark, gritty and took themselves a bit more seriously and I liked their dangerous edge  (Die Hard and Beverly Hill's Cop I think perfectly combined both styles).

Plus, he can direct exploding glass like nobody's business. looking forward to seeing his work on the big screen again.

It think it's too bad they don't make 80's action movies like The Last Boy Scout, Hudson Hawk, and Ricochet anymore. I rather miss 80's action movies that came out in the 90's. A rare breed, that.  smile.gif

Hill directing Jane and Stallone sounds like fanwanking-- cool fanwanking, but fanwanking nonetheless. That this is a genuine, actual announcement about a project that is going to happen is boggling in the best way possible. Great news.

I'd better be getting a Ry Cooder score for this!

It'd also be cool if any combination (or all) of the following regulars popped up in some capacity.....

- Keith Carradine

- Powers Boothe

- Ed O'Ross

- David Patrick Kelly

- Bill Paxton

- James Remar

- Wes Studi

- Kevin Tighe
